Stephen Thompson kindly updated us throughout the day; apparently it was a problem with the fire grate (I recall that 46115 failed with a similar problem last year). Came up to Birkett at about 50 mph with the 47 louder than the 8F.

Fantastic day out behind 48151 even with the bad weather and the problems with the return .Even with the 47 in behind the 8f was still working hard at times . The outward leg was a very damp trip to Hellifield with the 8f working well . The sun came out as soon as we passed the heavy downpour at Ribblehead but still changed all the time. Gordon Hodgson did a superb job on the outward leg in difficult conditions .

Fantastic effort as usual - especially in the conditions Phil - thanks for sharing. My son & I were on the overbridge below you - tried to keep out of your shot but once the train had passed I thought you would be zoomed in a bit more so apologies for appearing like a ghost on the bridge! Can just see you in the end of our shot! Hope you've dried out. Ian
