Will it be running anywhere in the West of England?

No idea at the mo @johnofwessex, baby steps I think, very nice to see another EEType 4 back out on the mainline though.

  3. Why do something that already exists x 7?

Far better surely to chuck your millions at having a crack at the Super Deltic?

Stuff that, and I say that as an ardent Deltic fan.

Give it to the IDRS and let them build a replica of 10000 to main-line spec. And you'll have change!

Which reminds me - must post my membership form.

As ever we are drifting but 10002, D8233 and D5705 and the Baby Deltic would be getting a cheque sent their way should my Euromillions come up!

Seconded :) But I'd have to do the Euromillions first.

This thread seems to have drifted into WIBN to have the most complicated and expensive to build and maintain high powered locos. In the real world people are maintaining smaller engines sucessfully. As a part owner of a 10, 33 and 73 myself I do not see any problems in keeping them working for the rest of my lifetime on a preserved line. The biggest problems are body work and once done with material such as Cromweld this is a once off cost. If you maintain your electrical machines you will not have flash overs, ditto with mechanical items. To overhaul a generator before it goes bang is 10k and will last 40/50 years if it needs rewinding after flashing over it’s 30k plus. Ditto mechanical items and running gear with a medium speed look after after the basics and it will last. a Sulzer or or EE is not a highly stressed fatigue life limited engine like a high speed Paxman, Napier . Apart from a crankshaft you can get new everything else such as Pistons, cylinder heads , bearings etc although with a cylinder head you rebuild it with new valves, guides, springs rockers etc as long as it is not cracked.
