Diesel railcar project

    Chassis now on its bogies....

    It will be out on test in a few weeks time using the Lombardini generator previously used, and probably a few Blackpool tram seats temporarily bolted in place!

    Just curious but is that frame on the right way up, having the trusses above the chassis rails?

    It may look wrong but it is the right way up! With the truss above the chassis you will be able to slide out the under floor cradle which contains the Peugeot turbo diesel engine and alternator - should help make maintenance much easier.

    Thanks for that. It makes sense to have better access as the chassis is much closer to the ground than standard gauge. I was intrigued as to the reason, first thoughts were to allow the railcar to negotiate tighter radius corners and still have structural integrity.

    Has the railway been watching too much Top Gear? Is the caravan in the background of the picture of the frame on its' bogies the new body??

    No - I think we'd rather not have it catch fire or get demolished by a passing loco! :laugh:
