I'm still a newbie to the RTT website so have a query arising from the fact that although UK steam shows today's train as cancelled the Railway Touring Company still has the date on the website and on looking at the RTT page for Wool to see if there was a sand train today I see the DCE path remains on there (logical). What has me confused though is that on clicking the link on that page for the times of IZ67 it has it down as running with a diesel. Although it doesn't say activated, equally it doesn't state cancelled either.

This is probably more a question on how to interpret the RTT information than anything else but is the DCE running today after all but with all diesel haulage due to lack of steam traction?

No and RTT shows all steam as diesel.

    Thanks Paul.

Apologies for going a bit off topic but as a newbie's guide for using RTT if something IS running, or probably going to run, will it always have an activated entry in the top right hand side of the screen? I ask as ideally I want a photo of something crossing into the Eastern Docks in Southampton for a talk but it is a four hour round trip for me to get there. There are paths for trains in the working timetable, such as the 'as required' daily boat train from Victoria, but most will never run.

Even if the service has been activated it is still not guaranteed to run. The train can be diverted or cancelled at the last moment by the customer or operator. <BJ>

Will Tangmere be ready to leave Carnforth in time? Or will repairs still be in progress?

I don't mean to lean towards Ollie as a substitiute, I think that is a possibility should need be though.

Thanks. I'm only just beginning to use RTT and did spot one of those on Tuesday when I was on photo safari in Southampton. A car delivery train had been activated and then cancelled at customer's request.

Back on topic. It will be good to see Braunton next week (hopefully) and also hopefully on an all steam day not with a half drag back to Southampton. Still I only go to photo it so can't complain as we don't contribute anything to the tour funding.

Tangmere is currently sidelined for (major ?) boiler repairs. If it is not available, Braunton will probably do the return leg from Southampton via Andover.

And if that happens then it will mean that the DCE will have a diesel on the rear all day. Can't see WCR paying for a separate path to get it to Weymouth for the bit where it's needed. Although unfortunate, that really would take the edge off the trip, I think.

So whats the current odds on Tangmere getting fixed and down in time for the 14th trip? Not sounding too hopeful, is it, I (like a lot of people I guess) was planning to get down Weymouth way to film the two working the "up". You are right, Braunton for its first paying trip, hauling a shunter around with it all day does take the edge off it.

You can be sure that if its not activated its not going to run. Sometimes however activation comes pretty late before departure time ( I have seen an hour for example)

With lineside fires breaking out again, (one/some alleged to have been caused by steam), and the current forecast for the next ten days showing very little in the way of rain and higher temperatures slowly building, there must surely be at least a risk of diesel assistance being required in any event?

Which means I'm still not booked on 35028 to Weymouth in late August

Which in turn means a fully booked train, a deluge of Biblical proportions followed by the best run of the year.

    Such is life.

It appears to be full already KY as you can't book on the website anymore. I had a look the other day and it says "Refer to booking office" for all classes. Either it's full or there is a problem. The day before I looked there were plenty of seats in all but one class but the following day it was no longer possible to book online.

Are my predictions coming to pass? LOL!

    Now for the deluge!

Big brother Don is booked on it, so I will be very pleased for him if there is a really good non diesel assisted run that day.

And I'll be chasing Owls somewhere. I hope!

But before that comes the next DCE. Fingers crossed for all booked on that.

Cath Ex to Weymouth is cancelled. Clan Line wants to play but she now hasn't any coaches she can pull.

Annie and Clarabel run off with the troublesome trucks?

So Clan Line is still a really useful engine, but the trucks don't want to play?

There's more steam loco action at 06.35 on Channel 5 M-F than on the old SR these days.

Al, presumably you have heard direct from SD on this?

Look on your profile page as your settings don't allow any 'conversations' (the old PM) with you
