The unreliability of the 56s was legendary. It was the unreliability of the 56s that lead to the import of the first private mainline locos to run BR - the class 59s.

As to the Rumanian ones - hand built by candlelight is fair description.

I sincerly hopes that only applies to Passenger services, anyone who thinks a freight can run at that speed is living in cloud cuckoo land, to be honest i was thinking more of freight work for the 90's, thinking of all those 66's running under the wires when both DB & Freightliner have underused electrics.

Well saw the now rare appearance of Class 60's at Dawlish last night and this morning. 60049 worked 6W41 (i may have forgotton some of the HC's and can't be bothered to trawl through the messages till it comes to captions!) and 60011 on the rear of 6W42 or 3 last night.

Then this morning saw (no shot unfortunatley) 60049 on 6W42 (again,i think) and got a few phots of 60011 on W43. This aft saw 66074 at Dawlish Warren,Cockwood and Exeter St Davids.....

    photos on my site soon....

    Cheers,
    Mark

One of my mates is a member of the Class 56 group. When they were looking at buying a loco they thought about buying one of the first 30, then decided it wasn't worth the hassle of buying what would essentially be a unique loco, despite being in a class of 135!
