A good if challenging day coping with hail snow and very wet fields :) The sun was in short supply, I might have to pop back for another go tomorrow, but the crews coped exceptionally well and timekeeping was excellent.

Yes it was a very good day yesterday despite conditions which were very bad at times. Timekeeping was good, aided by an uncomplicated timetable and smart operating. Well worth our 19 hour day which worked well with all TOCS and even Firstbus behaving themselves. Highlight for us was the ride in the Queen Mary brake van where I was greeted by an old colleague from the real days of steam, the cheerful and helpful Roy Hobbs. Thanks to all for their efforts. The shot gives a flavour of the conditions prevailing for a good part of the day.

Phil, a fine video there ! I quite enjoyed the conditions, which made for some very atmospheric shots ! Amazing how there was plenty of snow,on the northern part of the line but very minimal snow, around burrs. Surprised I didn't bump into you yesterday. Thanks for sharing. Regards, Liam

I notice there were two sets of Maroon stock and a Blue & Grey set in use. What happened to Carmine & Cream carriages at the ELR? Or were they not used because they aren't heated? I'm not trolling, just curious.

We only have 2 or 3 blood and custards. They were out at the back end of both days in a shuttle set. In my opinion it was nice to see 3 uniform rakes of stock. Even though the blue greys didn't match some of the loco liveries.

BR late crest and blue/grey = mid 1960s
    LMS and blue/grey = early 1980s

I like the rake of Blue & Grey, when all marshalled together in a set it compliments the diesel fleet, and having the odd vehicle mixed in with Maroon Mk1's doesn't look out of place a Black 5 or BR Standard either. I'm just surprised the railway has cut down it's rake of Carmine & Cream Mk1's, as they're equally attractive with certain locos.

Can anyone identify this pair of right Herberts seen walking along the track at Burrs on Sunday morning? Not only did they not have the faintest idea of what high visibility clothing was, they seemed to think that despite it being extremely foggy they would have no problems spotting any approaching train in good time to get out of its way so it was quite OK for them to be there.

I also took some photos of the trains on Sunday, and these can now be seen at my Zenfolio website at: - http://mickrogers.zenfolio.com/p978465852

Thanks to everyone who put in the effort to make it happen, not least because it really was a Winter's day!

Don't the ELR also have some Mk2's in blue/grey? There is one in maroon (or at least was). The carmine/cream always looked clean to me!
