One thing to consider is that the majority of tickets are some form of Rover allowing all day/week/year on (almost) any train in any direction. This makes it difficult to track passenger flow, origins & destinations, whether the 'String of Pearls' concept is working etc., compared to the traditional Single or Return.
I can't see that any of Edmondson, print-at-home or store-on-a-mobile-phone technologies offer any particular advantage.
Unless & until all WSR stations are 'closed' I can't see this changing.
Instead of Oyster cards, perhaps we'll all have Watchet Crab cards.
Meanwhile, I'll hang on to my funny little bits of cardboard.

Isn't there's a story about certain Mr Mitchell on the KWVR being asked for his ticket by a new TTI and replying with 'my face is my ticket' 'oh good' comes the reply 'because today I've been told to punch tickets' I'm sure names and railways have been changed! It's still a good one though!
