EOR's End of the Tube Event - 29th & 30th Sept - FOOTPLATE passes available!!

Sept 29 & 30th are notable dates for many reasons. 30th Sept 1994 is when LU suspended passenger trains, it is also a few days away from when DMU services recommenced in 2004. Ongar has always been the "end of the tube", and the whole system is still measured from our bufferstop. Special guest Ben Pedroche will be signing copies of his "Do Not Alight Here" book, and giving talks on the underground, its lesser known secrets and how to explore London's lost stations and lines!

We will also be celebrating the work and achievements that the volunteers undertake to keep the railway running. At Ongar we intend to have a small display including photographs showing the outline history of the line from 1946 until 2012 and what we have achieved since closure on 30 September 1994.

At North Weald will be the Epping Ongar Railway Volunteer Society’s Display Stand where you can talk to us about where the railway is now and our future projects. Hopefully you will think about joining the Society and helping us to continue with the restoration of Essex’s only main line Steam and Diesel operational railway.

FOOTPLATE RIDES Will be available for this weekend ONLY, you can ride for the round trip from Ongar to North Weald & return to Ongar on the footplate of GWR Hall locomotive "Pitchford Hall" for only £20 (you will also need to have a valid travel ticket), and diesel footplate rides from North Weald to the stopping point near Epping (& Return) for only £10. Also on sale will be other second hand railway books, videos plus luggage labels, platform tickets and other railway ephemera.
