I was speaking with a colleague today who has been involved recently with the project. He feels that Russell will not be ready in time.

I am also sceptical that Russell will be done i would love to be proved wrong but there does seem a hell of a lot of work to do on it in the space of 5 months till the main summer season starts then its got to have running in trials and a trip to the paint shop. I have seen locos fly back together in the space of a few months, and i can see that the work is being done is to a high standard and it will be nice when its done but in my own mind i carnt see it being until the latter end of the summer. Just my own opinion and i hoped to be proved wrong.

Well everyone is entitled to their opinion! What is this persons name then, I will know him if he's been involved with the project.

Personaly I think Russell will be ready by the time the WHR opens to Harbour Station.

What's Silly Billy got to do with this then? He's probably got no school tomorrow anyway due to the little bit of snow.

Well, I was sceptical that the WHR would open between Beddgelert and Harbour in July and I was right to be, so you may be right too, who knows???

There are only three people who know exactly what the status of Russell is and I'm pretty certain none of them will have been talking to you. The newsletter published on here recently was prepared about a month a go so we are a little further on.

The restoration of Russell is not being done in a linear fashion, the Russell team are multi- threading the rebuild with the overhaul of components being done in parallel so that we end up with a big pile of finished bits ready to go back on. The next WHHR newsletter will elaborate further.

Still what's the restoration of Russell got to do with this FR press release anyway?

Thats a shame I would have thought "The Osprey Express" would have been a very good earner, especially with more families holidaying in the UK this summer. :-k

Getting back on topic for a second……. am I right in thinking that the reason given for the delayed opening of the complete railway is “bad payers” (a department of the Welsh Assembly Government) who have told the FR to “go swivel” regarding their claim for an additional 70k to add to the 200k of flood damage repairs at Porthmadog?

Sorry I think you misunderstood me, the Osprey Express is my idea of a train from Portmadoc to the Osprey viewing site at Pont Croesor
