All correct, on the outbound leg the crew were low on coal and Ray had drive very economically. The return leg, the total opposite.

Absolutely. I have seen some superb performances of Tangmere on Hemerdon. One of my favourite engines.

Can we count 73156 on the GCR which ran on the GCR under BR and should be running by then?
Oh and if eastern region BR standards count then 78018 as well. And 70013, if it's not on main line duty at that time.
Chuck in an ex-Darnall class 31 diesel (D5830), job done. :)

I see elsewhere that the line-up for the winter gala 3 months after this is already known...yet nothing for the Autumn event is shown on the GCR website. Any inside info?

Believe it's been confirmed on the weekly newsletter or elsewhere that it will be 92 Squadron and Sir Keith Park as visitors with the standard 5 returning to traffic.

One of the austerities has moved under its own power in the last couple of months so I imagine might be considered a possibility?

Is there any news on a roster/timetable for the gala? Just knowing which locos will be working which days will help to plan a visit...

    TIA

To answer my own post, timetables with loco roster are now available on the GCR website.

Just to add a little more info about the event:

Thursday: As per the timetable on the website. 3 locos running.

Friday: A few moves take place from 0910 before the first passenger service. Freights also in operation throughout the day. 5 locos running.

Saturday: Again some earlier non-passenger moves take place from 0815. Plenty going on with Freight, Mineral and Van trains throughout the day along with 3 TPO runs. There's also a non-stop express from Loughborough to Leicester North. 9 locos running and the class 101 DMU.

Sunday: Very similar to Saturday with non-passenger moves from 0815. The final move from Loughborough is at 1700 after the last passenger departure. 2 TPO runs on Sunday, the various goods workings and non-stop express also feature. 9 locos out again along with the DMU.

Fingers crossed for some decent weather and a good weekend!

Will the yard and shed be open or is it now totally out of bounds?

Sadly, I think the shed itself and the apron in front are now out of bounds.

I popped down a couple of weekends ago and there was red tape sealing the area off. An apologetic guy in the blue overalls explained that it was all down the insurers and risk assessments. It's been great to have completely free access to the shed area for the last 40-odd years to see locos in various stages of restoration, but in the end the H & S brigade have won through.

Numerous times I've been in the shed while there's been welding and riveting going on and wondered how they've got away with it - and always been grateful to the GCR that they have allowed such access to the shed.

The guy did explain that they are hoping to allow guided shed tours in the future, but don't think it's going to happen that quickly as all these things would need a risk assessment and signing-off by the insurers.
