Well we might not have had snow at the GCR Winter gala this weeken but it certainly got wild! A mix of weather followed by a thunderous hailstorm! Here is a selection of images from the last two days, the full collection is now uploading at http://flic.kr/s/aHsjRe7dzS

Morning all, a good day yesterday despite the thunderstorm, my efforts are here

    http://railwaygalleries.smugmug.com/OtherPreservedSteam/GCR-Winter-gala-January-2014/

BTW, a big thanks to the individual at Quorn who decided to bomb over at the last minute and lean right over the fence to capture the departure of 70013 from Quorn yesterday morning, thereby ruining the shots of a good half a dozen or so individuals who had been there considerably longer than him, some for more than an hour. May all your photos come out blurry and over-exposed.

Some more photos from Saturday can be found here : - http://paulsimpson.zenfolio.com/p961375000, taken between travelling , the walk from Quorn to Woodthorpe was longer than I remember ! Luckily I was travelling when the heavy rain came.Trains were running about 15 minutes late in the afternoon due to a problem with points at Swithland ( which was better than East Midland Trains and Southern Trains on my way home).

    Evening All,

First of all sorry for not being able to post any info regarding sunday's changes. As some of you will no doubt be aware saturday did not end as we'd have liked with points problems at Swithland causing delays to the final services of the day; the final TPO had to run through to reverse at Rothley instead. To compound matters we had a fault with one of the dining coaches which required a shunt at Loughborough to replace it with an alternative vehicle. This also meant our rostered station pilot for the evening (48624) was stuck doing that instead. My apologies if you were delayed getting home (or to the pub!) as a result. Putting the trainset away on the saturday evening of a gala seems to be a bit of a re-current problem for us but rest assured it is something we will be working hard to improve on in the future! After having done a very tiring 12 hour shift my body was asking for food then sleep before an 0800 start on sunday hence my lack of post here.

I hope those of you who attended enjoyed the event despite the blip on saturday and the 'interesting' weather conditions!! I was caught in the freak hailstorm on saturday afternoon shunting the TPO set into the carriage sidings at Loughborough and can safely say I've never been so drenched and cold afterwards, not an experience I'd like to repeat in a hurry. Swithland was the quietest I've seen it on a gala day on sunday although a few brave (or mad?!) photographers did appear early in the afternoon after the worst of the rain.

There's some excellent photos on here so please keep them coming and the saturday evening TPO with the Brit looked like a cracker from what I've seen. Any constructive feedback on how we can improve is of course most welcome. I hope we'll be able to see many of you again at a future event :)

    Kind regards,

    Phil

My footage from the Saturday of the gala, featuring a rather epic evening TPO run by 70013 'Oliver Cromwell'!

I didn't manage to catch the few minutes of Sun during the Friday or Saturday, but here are a few shots, mainly at Leicester North.
