Agreed,it maybe possible, rather a long shot I would think............................. but never say never...............

Still it looks very much like a Black 5 or nothing at the moment, what with problems, ailments and delays to the winter maintenance of various loco's, that's pretty much it!

What else is there? There's a certain A1 that for well documented reasons can't be used, the K1 & K4 + 60009 will be oop North for their stints, so really that just leaves Tyseley's stable, and they don't do other peoples tours do they (?)

Ah, yes, I'd forgotten about that - didn't actually see it as I was up in North Wales that day at SSS III getting soaked to the skin and trying not to develop hypothermia!!!!

So......................................... Tyseley & R I R to the rescue?....................................... could throw up something interesting!

That's good news. Well done Ian and his team for taking on the extra work.

How many miles will his locos have covered this month? They've already been to the NYMR and back home; Bury - South Wales this weekend, then down to Newquay, all the way to the Kyle, via Swansea and Aberdeen, then back home again! Let's hope that busy locos are profitable ones.

Good luck to the lads with their treck across the UK which has obviously started today with the move from Grosmont to Shrewsbury.

Let the fun and games begin!

Could 70000 play apart on the Preston to Edinburgh leg - a picture on Heritage Painting's Facebook page suggests a partial repaint and a varnish is complete suggesting (in my opinion) so are the repairs?

I'm sure that Nigel would like a well balanced program for the passengers, who pay lots of money to take this tour. A 7 or 8 locomotive tour would be more ideal than 6 locomotives when your country has so much to offer compared to where I live.

I suspect that might be half right.

I would think there is little chance of Galatea being used as she is completely untested
and I don't think WCR would want to risk any thing on this prestigious trip. More than likely RIR will supply locos to fill in, Ian does mention on his site that they are looking at 9 days back to back work.....

Ralph, I changed what I said originally in terms of my phrasing. I feel for the 5305 locomotive association. Sir Lamiel is in top notch condition and Ollie is unavailable because of a prolonged winter maintenance program, that has got to be rough.

That's going to be very interesting, as he say's "is it a first"?. The logistics will be horrendous, but I'm sure his two "old faithful's" wo'nt let him down.....

Ian has been known to say that the only thing better than a Black Five is two Black Fives, and in the current circumstances I think he might be right! The only thing they can't do (under current regulations etc.) is run at 75 mph, which is why you also need a Bulleid Light Pacific in your fleet to meet all eventualities!

So possibly Tangmere to Exeter and two 5's from Exeter to Par plus the return to at least Exeter. Looks like GBVI will be the Ian Riley road show. So much for the best laid plans....

    "3) Otherwise Tangmere Waterloo-Exeter and 2 x Black 5 Exeter-Par.

Given that Tangmere will be in London and the Black Fives in Cardiff after this weekend, option 3 is looking quite likely to me."

Spot on, Steamage. On Saturday 20th of April, latest is that it will be 34067 'Tangmere' from London Victoria to Exeter on the SR route via Salisbury, and a pair of 'Black Fives' from Exeter to Par. 'Tangmere' is scheduled to arrive at Exeter St Davids at 14:34 with the next stage leaving Exeter at 16:52, so it's a good long stop. The stage from Newquay to Cardiff on Sunday 21st (Black Fives) passes Exeter at 1500 but is not scheduled to stop.

Exeter - Par, Newquay - Cardiff - Preston - Edinburgh and Inverness - Edinburgh with double headed Black 5s, plus solo 5s from Edinburgh to both Aberdeen and Inverness, as well as the Kyle trip. By my reckoning that must be around 1200 miles that 44871 and 45407 will be working, not including light engine and empty stock moves.
