The last Austerity built was HE 3890 new for the NCB, as 61624 says, in 1964 and is now in service at Quainton Rd. HE 3902 of 1971, a 750mm g. saddletank built for export to Java was the last steam loco built in the UK for commercial use. Of course the F.R. built EoM in 1979 and so on and so forth. If they'd qualified it by saying "for mainline use" they might have had a USP - just careless advertising IMHO.

The press releases used to say mainline loco, so I'm guessing it's just been missed off this time, or poorly edited.

In that case. Quorn should go North Eastern region and paint the signs orange .
Sponsorship may be available from the fungal protein people...

Well Tornado is not now at Quorn as the reception siding is empty. It was not outside the shed at Loughborough but may have been in the station?
The van train was in the long siding through the yard, past the goods shed - it is impressive with nearly 20 vehicles in the rake.

There's been posts on Facebook of it inside the shed at Loughborough.

Thanks 5944 - I did wonder if it was in the shed, but I didn't think there was any room, as it was virtually full when I was in there two weeks ago!

I'm now imagining engines as luvvies - A4s being primadonnas, riley's black 5s as those in tv soap-opera work "it's not hollywood, but it's good steady work", and the Bluebell P as an old ham

I don't know so much about celebrity. More of a fallen angel at present. One imagines that whatever needs to be done to it to get a little extra mileage out of it probably needs work done inside rather than out.

There are "Boscastle" Shed Tours this weekend. Times approx 11 am to 3.30 pm as only the lunchtime dining train is operating from Loughborough. An opportunity to see the newly assembled tender and Tornado.
