They certainly did come to Worcester. Many photos and at least one video of them at Worcester are in existence.

The 225psi resultant "County" will be always looked upon as a "de-tuned" version of the 250psi double chimney final development of the class.

By cutting corners and using an old firebox from an 8F to save money, they'll be producing a "weak" version of a loco which in its final form was a really potent 4-6-0. I read somewhere that their final double chimney 250psi form they were considered by some to be the best locos for passenger work over the Newport-Hereford-Shrewsbury line.
Shame really, I don't wish to offend anyone, but if they do keep to the 8F staying arrangement in the firebox and thus run the loco at 225psi, it will always be the "County that might have been".

Well, they'll have spent a lot of time and money to get it running, maybe they want to get it running as soon as reasonably possible, and on a mere pond-full of money, as opposed to a lake-full?

I mean, they can always come along and replace the boiler with a 'proper' re-created Grange boiler later (say when the current boiler ticket expires). It will cost, yes, but they'll have put off that extra expenditure until a time when their finances have (hopefully) recuperated.

Think this is a hangover from when these posts were on the Betton thread before I got them moved.

Thanks - that's a bit early for me - my "spotting" period was 1961-64
