If I understand correctly, they seem to have arranged some deal to use the same bank account as the owner of a class 47.

Now, excuse me for being naive, but if I donate money with the express purpose of rescuing a GWR steam engine, what protection do I have that the money won't instead be spent on the class 47?

I think I'd want a rather more robustly constituted structure than that before I sign my check for 38 grand...

Not for me to comment on the price, It was the news someone is remortgaging their house to fund the purchase that raised an eyebrow.

hope the business plan stacks up.

Wow! Not sure on the wisdom of one person re-mortgaging their house to buy a locomotive for a group that is still at early stages. Can't help but feel it is a recipe for future heartache.

    This is financial madness !
If the scheme can't attract sufficient funding can the home owner cover the repayments at what is probably a higher rate of interest than a normal mortgage ?
I think that they should use some of the funds to buy a caravan as a fall-back.

You've got to be kidding - Stuart doesn't do business plans...or any plans come to think of it!

It's in a post from yesterday from a 'Tracy Lear'

It's utter madness the way the group is set up - all I would say is think very very very carefully before sending any money to this group.

I'll have another look then. If anyone who has even glanced at this thread donates at the moment I'd be worried for their sanity.

Not much chance of any money being handed over, I'd have thought ...

That said, who is the mysterious Tracy Lear, and what is she trying to achieve? The fact that (as far as I can see) she owns and occasionally operates a class 47 suggests she must have some kind of pedigree and capital and can't be a complete fantasist. So what's the story with hooking up with a Stuart and his chums?

see from pos #112, basically Tracy got interested in 2859 so presumably contacted stuart, as someone said previously, judging from Tracy's previous form, a match made in heaven...

    Oh no ! What a shock ! . They've had a disagreement & split up. Anybody fancy buying a 2-8-o ?
Take a look at the latest c**p on their Farcebook site.

    April fools anyone ?

As for mortgaging their home, well it's not my cup of tea, but I know one person who did.. And made a very successful "income" from it in the preservation movement.

Was quite amused to read the editorial/comment in the new heritage railway (yet to be published, there is a sneek peek on their facebook) wishing the 2859 group all the best for the future.

What a shame stuart couldn't have held it together for a few more days. HR would have got something right. Now all we have is some delightful comic timing.

I've got a snapshot taken last night - I'll post it up when I get home.
I wonder if the lady concerned (Tracy) was actually aware of Stuart's previous 'projects' - she (and her husband) seemed quite annoyed that people weren't contributing, when she was prepared to remortgage her house. Maybe she didn't realise that people are on to Stuart and won't contribute to any of his schemes due to his past record. It just shows that these 'Facebook newbuilds' actually do have the capability to fool people.

It actually started about a week ago but lots of the posts seem to have disappeared. Firstly there was a comment from Tracy saying that she was setting a two week ultimatum for donations to materialise, otherwise the deal in which she mortgaged her house was off. Then a somewhat bewildered comment from Stuart saying something like (I paraphrase from memory) "come on you lot, it's no use just liking this page, you have to donate" (Well - d'oh!) and then I think another comment along the lines of "why won't you lot donate?". And then finally Tracy's little outburst at Stuart.

I suppose we do now at least know the going price for a scrap-condition 28xx without tender or any parts - £38k...

Is there ANYBODY left willing to support mr Reeder and his plans? I think if he promotes any more schemes we would have to seriously suspect there may be a bit of a scam going on
