Know it's short notice, but 2807 is hoped to operate the 13:00 and 15:30 services tomorrow (Tuesday 6th) from Llangollen. 3802 as back-up loco.

I heard last weekend that they are double-heading 8 coaches.

Will 2807 get any weekend runs before it leaves Llangollen?

If so advance notice would be apprecciated.

Unlikely as the shed staff mainly work Mon-Fri, and it is they who are operating her as part of her running in.

I'm not sure where she is to be painted, that you will have to wait for the 2807 lads to comment. From what I hear though she is a very good machine and a those that have got onto the footplate have been impressed with her.

2807 due for collection from Llangollen later this week for delivery to Toddington. Too late for running the weekend, but plans are being drawn up to have a proper celebratory entry into traffic, possibly as a 8f 2-8-0 weekend with 8274 and 3803. Keep viewing for news.
With the news of the cost of gotherington looming over the railway we are making sure we try and keep some interesting things happening.

No. 2807 is now back at Toddington. The locomotive will be inspected, with a planned entry into service on the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway during week commencing 26 July.

A couple of great photos of the locomotive back at Toddington on the fotopic site. Amazing to compare these with those taken on 20 June 1981 when 2807 first arrived at Toddington from Barry Scrapyard 29 years ago. As luck would have it I'm on holiday next week but its probably going to be next weekend before I can get down to Toddington to see 2807 (I last saw it at Llangollen in April) and really believe that it is there! What a fantastic accomplishment.

After having a footplate turn on 2807 last Wednesday, I have to say that the loco runs very smoothly and was very impressed.

Well done to all who have contributed years of hard labour to get the loco back into service.

Just out of interest - having ridden behind 2850 at Minehead last week - how balanced is this class generally?

I feared for my fillings and would actively avoid that loco in the future as result of the horrible unbalanced motion being transmitted back into the coaching stock.

    The S & D 2-8-0 by comparison was a wonderful loco.

It will have been 3850 that you would have ridden behind at Minehead. There are minor differences only between the 28xx class such as 2807 and the Collett 2884 class like 3850. I have travelled behind 2857 and 3822 (both when they were on the GWR and at their respective home locations) and do not recall the motion being horrible or unbalanced on any occasion. However, I understand that these 2-8-0s did have a tendency to be less pleasant when travelling in excess of 30mph, which was of little consequence since they were built to haul heavy, slow mineral trains. The LMS 8Fs could be "adjusted" to run more smoothly at higher speed (this I think was shown by the addition of a white star painted on the cabsides) but I am not aware that the GWR 2-8-0s could be similarly treated. I am looking forward to seeing what 2807 can do. Currently the locomotive and tender is being "spring balanced" which, amongst other things, should ensure a smoother ride when it enters service very soon on the GWR. Llangollen crews were very complimentary about it when it was being tested last month.

I was lucky enough to be on the foot plate at Llangollen during testing and in the coaches also. Smooth and powerful but i might be a little baised!
