    Yeah, right!.......................

Why hurry? what's the rush? its finished when its finished.......................... I don't hurry, that's when you make mistakes........... me - a nice steady pace & job done quicker & tidier than hurrying! ;)

Still, I'll definitely try and make the effort to see what you lads are up to, and to see if there's anything worth having for the MHR.................................................. :p

It depends how far is "too far". Stand on the road bridge by Winchcombe station and look to wards the tunnel. There's a footpath running parallel with the line on the LH Side. You can get some good pictures from this footpath, particularly late afternoon when the sun (if out) will be in the right place. It's uphill from the station to the tunnel, so the locos should be working at this point. A small stepladder may help.

    Thanks for that John.

Though I'm not going to cart a set of steps around with me.......... but being 6' 5" maybe I don't need to?..........................

As for how far is too far - that depends entirely on me mate on the day, and if he's up to it, me - I'll quite happily go a wandering! :)

45379 left Alresford last night and its tender is in the car park now, waiting to go....(34007 and tender arrived yesterday evening as well, lots of low loader movements to amuse the locals, such as a full rig with Wadebridge's tender on reversing down station road at 21:30 last night!)

If he is up to it try the section of footpath between the two roads at Didbrook - Morning Shot ( see link to Streetmap in my previous post). No steps required. We used it for the photo charter with 7820 see http://paulsimpson.zenfolio.com/p927414152/h322f91e9#h322f91e9 and this one from Hampshire Unit https://www.flickr.com/photos/arleimages/13703970063/

Thanks for the tips, but I doubt we'll get there, as a, we don't land at Cheltenham until 10:30, and b, He definitely wont want to walk that much!!

I'm sure I'll be able to sneak away at some point, but as its a first time visit I'll be looking to see what the whole line has to offer...... :)

    Nice images BTW!

I poked my nose out of the workshop as I heard the train go past, and look what I saw:

7820 and 3850 double heading on the choc 'n' cream set, wonderful! Unfortunately I missed it both times when they were the right way round as I was covered in paint and didn't really want to mess up my phone, I'm sure someone got some better pictures that might appear later, but what a treat!

Really looking forward to next weekend now, Is the only loco left to arrive the little tank from the Severn valley now? I think 4270 will be entering the paint shop tomorrow, there was talk about doing a shunt, I assume that's what it's for.

The freight train is being assembled on Thursday I hear, although with one or two wagons less than last year for a reason that I can't remember, but there might be one or two new ones in.

And finally the restaurant coach for the third rake is pretty much done for the gala, it's been lined out, but due to time constraints the choc 'n' cream is still in undercoat matt, which gives an interesting look, I quite like it.

Tomorrow - yes, if it's the same as today (should be) there is a Cornish pasty van there taking up some space . I don't know what it'll be like by 4 pm, but if you want to be sure there are much bigger car parks at both Toddington and Cheltenham, plus you get the added bonus of "needing" to get on the train to get to the booze.

Very nice, how come 4270 only got her "G W R" on one side, looks like it was transfers from C+W pictures, so would have thought there would be enough time?

I'm guessing the 8F is being renumbered, looking at previous pictures it hasn't been done yet...
