I know it is too late for this gala, but has the GWSR ever considered hiring in some GWR coaches for an event say from the SVR. ? I know they have with Mike Littles Autotrailer 178 but not anything else. Also what happened to the LMS Inspection Saloon that the railway restored in Winchcombe goods shed. I remember them working on it and it was also used for Princess Annes visit, Where is it now ?

I think there were one or two hired in for GWR175? Much as I'd be excited by it, I don't think it could be financially justified; same cost as to hire a loco, but guest engines are more exciting than carriages attracting more visitors giving a better return. An extra loco wins every time.

The LMS inspection saloon had a leaky roof and wasn't well utilised on the railway, I believe it's currently sat outside the SVR carriage shed with a tarp, it possibly got there via the MHR. Seems a shame but there we go.

It was Engine and support coach. You are correct, no Kings before then.

Ahh found it, is this one http://www.cs.vintagecarriagestrust.org/se/CarriageInfo.asp?Ref=805

It is a shame as it was nice inside, I went to look in it many times when it was being worked on. I was told that in the restoration they re sheeted it with aluminum instead of the original steel sheet, the thinking being that it wouldn't rust. I think however though it caused a problem though in that they found the aluminum sheet expanded and contracted in different temperatures and maybe this contributed to it leaking ?

I’m working all weekend next weekend so won’t be able to make the gala. Will there be an opportunity to have a run behind 70013 the week after?

Hope the gala goes well, either way.

    Regarding your question about 70013..

There will be opportunities to have a run behind Oliver Cromwell as I was told the 'Britannia' is staying and down to run additional days until 3rd June, with 6023 staying until 10th June, also down for additional days. Unfortunately, USATC 5197 and Collett 0-6-0PT 6430 will not be operating after the event.

    Hope this helps,
    Adam

Just seen a report that the S160 has landed at Toddington, 2 down, 2 to go.

Oh, and just thought I'd mention it's the beer festival this weekend, 3 steam trains out and about plus DMU running late and early and in between on the Saturday. Should be beautiful weather too, I shall be sat on a grassy embankment somewhere with my camera and revision books! :)

I’ve been asking the bus chaps for there plan, they’ve had the timetable for a while now. As soon as they let us know,we will get it up online.
Both king and s160 in steam as I type, both having steam tests. But.. 5197 out and about Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday...

I'm probably going up to Toddington this afternoon for filming and also to photograph the visitors from the Viewing Area.

While the S160's whistle is alright and has a nice tone, when it whistles right next to you, it does not go down well with some people. I wouldn't really be thrilled if the crew decided to whistle right as the S160 was directly in front of me if I just so happened to be filming at a certain location, because that whistle can be MENTAL in volume, no doubt making me jump and most likely spoiling the shot.

Regarding 5197 'out and about' this week, is that on test runs, or service trains?

On the whole drivers use the whistle when they are required to, the presence of photographers makes no difference.

As it is a rather large vehicle I suspect the £5k each way per coach probably prices itself out
