The point that I was trying to make was not the legality, just that it would have been nice to have been asked before use and that it should be properly attributed. It's simply a case of good manners. If I had been that concerned about it I'd have got my lawyer in contact with Nat Pres and demanded that they take it down. They would have been extremely ill advised not to have done so.

Some of my photos have been licensed for use by Getty Images, this isn't one of them, but trust me, if it was and if they had found it, there would be some serious and very expensive repercussions. Feel free to Google on the issue.

Sorry for not asking permission, but I would like to point out I did provide the link, you even quoted it, I just put it into some English to make my post flow better. To be fair I'd forgotten that you're more of a photographer than some of the other GWSR bloggers so I'll bear this in mind. Perhaps a quiet pm would be better next time though...

Having once worked with the media, mainly in the military context, all I would say is that it is, at the very least, good manners to attribute the author and/or photographer. Better still, to ask permission first. However, the Internet is the nearest I've ever experienced to the Pandora's Box of legend and it is all too easy to copy or reproduce something seemingly freely. Copyright holders can and will protect their material so perhaps tighter control might be needed when they publish it (electronically) and I too believe that a pm would have been better in the case of the image concerned in this thread. We are all photographers now, but people who do it for a living will reach for their lawyer if they have to. I can remember having more than one "interesting" discussion with people, several of senior rank, who thought that the MOD had Crown immunity from copyright whilst conveniently forgetting that there's also such a thing as Crown Copyright too!

Couple of things here - Alex did provide a link has he has explained, there is a lot of traffic on this forum so I wouldn't be surprised if there were members who hadn't seen the Blog before who have now visited as a result of the link to the site, which if you skim over the link he has put (the steam blog bit highlighted in Blue). Nothing harmful to you or your work was intended.
However, I also note that there is no information regarding copyright of your photos on the Blog, in fact I had to search around to find your email address therefore you haven't made it very easy for someone to ask if I am honest (and until you posted as such I wouldn't of known you were the blogger in question.

Now this is a bit aggressive (bearing in mind that we have linked to the image i.e it's actually your link that you have made public which is displayed here not the actual content here is the Image URL copied from right clicking the picture on the forum and copying the image URL just to prove that your hosting the actual picture direct rather than hosted here - http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-CYYcS5VgB0o/VKVYcNzrHDI/AAAAAAAAHm4/TssyZt2Cj40/s1600/IMG_1248.jpg), I would hope that in such a situation you would contact the team here yourself first (we don't bite) and discuss the situation before taking the drastic (And usually expensive) action of a lawyer.

Finally I suggest that there is no need for this conversation to continue here as it is diverting from the subject matter of the thread. If anyone wishes to continue discussing it then please do so via PM and if anyone wishes to or have any questions etc feel free to PM me.

I would further suggest that the GWSR Steam Loco Dept Blog is a far more reliable source of information than some of the uninformed and speculative comments banded about on this and other forums, including the aforementioned railway press who don't always check the accuracy of their sources before committing to print.

Having picked up from this forum that the latest edition of a railway magazine (Steam Railway-other railway journals are available) had more than 1 article on the GWSR, I duly purchased (instead of furtively glancing in the shop!) a copy yesterday.

The article on BR Standard Class 4 2-6-0 No 76077 proved to be an interesting read to me and confirmed much of what I had been told regarding the state of the loco and the spares that came with it, even though I had not heard any information about it in recent years. It was pleasing to note that 76077 had lent some of its fittings to enable 76084 to return to working order more quickly too. It is heartening to read that, subject to GWSR Board approval, work may recommence on this "forgotten" loco this year. If so, it will, in the short term, remove an eye-sore (the amount of "eyesoreness" is proportional to the enthusiasm of the observer and usually measured in the internationally recognised "Paulhitch Scale" - a bit like the Richter Scale for earthquakes only noisier) and provide a focus for the increasingly skilled and very dedicated people at Toddington who restore and maintain the locomotives there. The 76xxxs seem to have a good record on heritage and main lines and I, for one, look forward to seeing 76077 back in service sometime. As previously said, these weren't allocated to the Western Region but the class did work over what is now the GWSR at times.

Although not strictly for this thread, I enjoyed the article on BR Mk Is too.

    A few were overhauled at Swindon Works in 1964. These include 76037, 76041, 76075, 76076 and 76081.

That will be the article which described Mark Ones as having a canvas roof then.

Does anyone know if the rumour that the 8F has left the GWSR for good is true, and where its new base will be?

I think we've had that one, seems like it's out now. Gone to GCR(N) for the year, can't remember if that's going to be its new base though. Only left because we've got too many locos and we aren't at Broadway yet which we were planned to be (minor inconvenience of landslips costing a couple of £million) and it didn't have long left on it's boiler ticket. As far as I know it was all amicable.

Good luck to it. Glad to be seeing GWR Locos running on the line.

I'm sorry to see it leave the GWSR. It made an intersting comparison with 2807.

Indeed, so am I, was nice to have something not GWR, for an area very much on the border so to speak. Good to hear that 76077 hasn't been forgotten, I shall seek the article out at some point soon. Sounds like it will take 35006's place in the restoration queue then, and perhaps work on 2874 will begin more earnestly once 44027 is done?

In theory, about 18 months away, although I'm sceptical.

There is no official word on what is happening with 44027...

Not quite sure where that opinion comes from, 44027 bears no relation to the restoration of 2874 whatsoever I'm afraid.

2874, now within the ownership of the 2874 Trust Ltd. with restoration being managed by Dinmore Manor Locomotive Ltd. is now largely de-tubed with a great many parts removed and in store/being worked upon, some items for it like the vacuum pump body have recently been machined. We are nearly ready for a boiler lift so things are ticking away in the background.

The latest can be found on the GWSR steam dept blog or on 2874's own dedicated blog which is in the process of being brought up to date: http://2874dinmoremanor.blogspot.co.uk/
