    There is a lot of uninformed comment here. HIT charge a fee based on percentage of takings. Its a sliding scale with as I recall a lower percentage the greater the turnover. If you want to make money for your railway its a very good way to do it. I always took the view that it was better to take £100k at an Easter Thomas event and give £20K to Hit than not run a thomas event and take £20K.
    HIT rightly upped the standard required for events because some railways were taking the mickey i.e. a Thomas event without Thomas? They probably pushed their requirements too far but it seems to me they are quietly pulling back. The problem for them now is the perception is that its too much trouble and rumours about the requirements to run an event are much worse than the reality.
    I would love to run a Thomas event at my railway but I know we could not cope yet.
