How well staffed heritage railways are for volunteers ?

    No I do not currently volunteer
    Is that a "thing" then? Cannot say I have ever noticed an obviou volunteer doing something like that on any heritage line.

    So which roles do fall in that category? I’m sure there are some who don’t pull their weight, but the role itself?

    Yes I am an active volunteer
    Same at Swanage Tom, we have the Signets.
    They have been going for over 25years.
    Many of our staff, qualified volunteers and mainline employee's came via this route.
