    Oops! I overlooked that you had mentioned A3s. By mistake you said "8Ps" and that's what prompted me to mention the Duchess picture. Re-engaging brain I recall that we had already established that various 8Ps were painted blue.

    Apologies for my error as I'm sure I have seen a photograph of A Jubilee in blue - and it looked VERY nice indeed hence my suggestion that it be an option for consideration.

    Lizzies also carried it, but were upgraded from 7P to 8P in 1951. I suppose if the blue was applied when at the time they were rated 7P, that counts too??!

    There was no such thing as a Class 8P prior to January 1951, the biggest engines where Class 7P, but at that time uprated to 8P, what had been 6P became 7P and what had been 5XP became 6P. Class 5P (or 5P5F) remained unaltered.

    So A3s were 7Ps pre and post Jan 51 ie not uprated?
