Just How Fast will Bittern Go?

Hmmmmm. Just checked the forecast for the next ten days or so. A heatwave.

If that proves correct and continues Bittern's trains could well run at 100mph. But behind a box because of fire risk.

 

Yes its predicted to last for a while too (where have we heard that one before!) but it does look like it could put a dampener on these runs...excuse the pun
Fingers crossed the weather forecasters have got it wrong and Bittern can continue with these magical speeds.

 

There's been quite a lot of rain recently and the vegitation around the linesides is very green at the moment, with everything growing rapidly. I think it would take a couple of weeks of significantly hot, dry weather for steam bans to be thought about. The riskiest times are April before the growth gets going and September as things start to die back.

 

Reading the Beano today it says that Don Clarke is to retire next month............... start those rain dances now!
