75078 was the service loco for both days of this weekend's running on KWVR. This was her first revenue earning service since overhaul and sets her up nicely for the Winter Steam Gala. There are a variety of photos and videos. Steaming Around Yorkshire and Jeff Albiston's site are two examples worth looking at. I suspect there will be the usual good stuff from Penny Steam but haven't seen it yet.

Looks very nice indeed! On a related subject, what's the latest with TVR 85's overhaul?

Last time I saw 85, work was continuing on the boiler. There will be more information available at the Winter Steam Gala with a full programme of guided shed tours on each of the three days. Full details are on the web site.

Further news about 85 suggests most of the boiler work is finished and she is nearly ready for hydraulic boiler test. Assuming this is OK, the boiler should then be lifted back onto the frames. AFAIK there is no date yet for the boiler lift.

This is not an official statement but is to the best of my knowledge.

I was going to ask about Lambton tank 52, assuming 85 is the same locomotive. I would love to see it and No's 5 & 29 all together. Future gala for the Tanfield Railway!

Unless the lampton collieries were connected to the taff vale routes by a tunnel I think wheel arrangement is the only connection.

Apparently it was bought from GWR in 1931 by the LH&JC when redundant. I think you will find they bought a number of former GWR and Taff valley tanks

Should have included Taff Valley No 67 that was also on the Lambton Colliery during NCB days. Would be great to see all four 0-6-2's working together. Not sure if there are any plans for No 67 in the near future?

Apologies, I misread your comment. It is one in the same locomotive. However a lot of work was done to return it to original condition and there might not be the will to modify again.

That's fine, yes the cabs were heavy modified for the tunnels I believe. It would make for a good event though to get them all together in steam but I think it might be some time before No 5 is overhauled

Indeed, 85 was sold to Lambton Hetton and Joicey after the GWR took over the Taff Vale Railway and implemented their standardisation plans. At the end of its life there it was sold to M & GN, but sold on by them to KWVR without being moved away from Philadelphia.

What is the future of the likes of the 4mt tank, 8F, Yankee tank and 2mt tender loco? Is there a long term plan for overhauls?

4MT tank 80002 is currently in the Oxenhope Exhibition shed awaiting a decision on overhaul. I understand it may be brought back to Haworth to be properly "mothballed" when 85 has been completed. I don't think there is any immediate prospect of the 8F coming back any time soon. The suggestion seems to be that too much work is needed for it to be a viable proposition in the immediate future. My personal view (I stress personal) is that the railway is currently well equipped with large engines (Standard 4, Big Jim, W.D., Wells) and that for regular use the smaller, more economical locos fit the needs of the railway. Of course the big engines attract visitors - that has been seen with the massive interest over the last 12 months with the return to service of Big Jim, Wells and 75078.

I don't know what the future holds for the Yankee tank but the Standard 2 is in Haworth Shed and work has started on its overhaul. I believe the Ivatt 2-6-2T 41241 is the immediate priority with the aim of a return to service for the Railway's 50th Anniversary in 2018.
