Does anyone know if Nunlow is going to be out? And if it is any chance of it doing a full round trip at some point over the gala?

Or failing that, just a run up to Ingrow with a decent load... [-o<

Are the Leander mainline trips top and tail with a diesel as intended last year,or Leander both ways?

Noticed none of the publicity mentions a diesel this time.

Almost certainly steam out, diesel back just like last year.
The Hellifield trains will probably go to Settle Jc. to reverse. Not sure if you can run round at Blea Moor but it will certainly be quicker and easier not to so you can bet that is what will happen!

Maybe I have let things get a little over the top before responding to this. Infact it wasnt until Simon told me whats going on that I even thought to look.
    First some clarification:

The Shuttles will consist on 5690 Leander top and tailed with a diesel locomotive. They will run 3 x each day to Settle Jct, where the train will reverse and head back to Keighley. All Keighley departures will be from Platform 3 (on the KWVR side on the station).

There will then be an evening trip (again in the same formation) that operates to Blea Moor, crossing the famous Ribblehead Viaduct. This will be for pre booked passengers only.

Leander will run on the rear end of a train to Oxenhope and detach at Haworth loop on both Friday and Saturday night. Potentially run L/E on the mornings down to Kly.

It Will NOT run any trains on the Friday, and will be used solely on the Mianline trains.

There will be KWVR fares only too, not just mainline ones.

The sourinier booklet is priced £2.50, and is a FULL 32 page document. This is double what some railways produce for the same price.
Most other Railways now use this method as to publish the loco diagrams, we are doing the same as its a commercial safeguard to sell the booklets, which in the current time of "recession" can be a vital few quid in the coffers. Believe me the gala is not at all cheap to run!
These will be available from Early June onwards.

    Any more questions?

Kieran (One of the (silly?) people organsising the event!)

Oh an engineers freight train is been planned - nice and heavy for both the WD and 04 to haul!

Plan is to give it a full round trip early one morning from Kly . . . we'll see. Its limited to 15mph tho so is aukward

Nunlow is very powerful, its problem is speed, as we have to allow 40 mins for a round trip compared to the usual 25 mins. But it is our intention to do a round trip if possible with it.

Should be in steam all 3 days, Friday just for shunting purposes tho.

Frankly to pick on KWVR for asking 2.50 for a roster when you always put together a comprehensive guide with the roster that is easly worth the 2.50 and is far better value than anyone else is totaly unfair. No one mentionend the subject when other gala's when the pricing, loco's, and the event are aften much smaller so why make an issue with KWVR.What ever option you choose you get more for less than almost any other gala.

It may come a shock to some but steam trains do not grow on trees.

    A suggestion:

there are people who are out there who like to ride behind diesels - can WCRC advise what the 'tail' loco on the shuttles will be please? You might just sell a few more tickets if it is 'interesting' (47245 or 33208 would do for me)! Looking at the times on the KWVR website I can't see anything running round at Settle Junction in 10 minutes or so. I therefore assume that each of the trips will be steam out for diesel back?

In terms of the WCRC Diesel - it has to be a vac brakes one,as I understand Leander is Vac only.

So it leavers them with a choice of 33's? , 37676, 47245 and 47760 (hence why this one was used last year) and possibly a 33. I think they are the only ones that are Vac braked at the present time. James Shuttleworth (WCRC) is on the forum and he may be able to advise more definative - but remember he like WCRC are busy people so dont barrage them with messages. Its hard to say but we should know closer the time.

In terms of the booklet :

Alot of the other major Railways now do these: Llangollen, North Norfolk, NYMR, West Somerset, Severn Valley, etc etc

So we thought it was about time we tried something.

The KWVR is often criticised for not trying new ideas and infact Ben commencted after the October 08 gala that he thought things were going downhill.
-So now we try a new idea we are still being slammed for it?

Not wanting to get into any arguements or slander matches as thats not why I am here but all i can say is, Please buy the booklet, look at what we've done, and then comment upon it. We could sell it for £5 and it still be good value for whats inside.

    Kieran,

I've just seen your reply - after my edit! I'll stick with my two suggested engines then (33208 preferred please!) ;-)

Best wishes for a successful gala - I look forward to the barrage of publicity in the Bradford Telegraph & Argus, It looks more like a KWVR newsletter in the approaches to galas - well done somebody!

Re the diesel, would have thought it would have to be something with ETH to provide on board services lighting/power to the buffet car if there is one.

If this is the case i would think 37676 and 47254 are out of the running. depending on the length of the train might also be pushing a 33 to provide the supply.

You have stated the daytime mainline shuttles will use platform 3 at Keighley. Will the evening Blea Moor service be the same, or will it use platform 4 like last year.
Goo to see Nunlow is likely to get a run to Oxenhope, and I look forward to the gala.

I think your getting your platforms mixed up, the Blea Moor service departed from Platform 3 last year.

The batteries supply the lighting, recharged by dynamos underneath the coaches. The only other power required for the buffet car is gas for the boiler.
