Saw them come in on the SW mainline and later after I moved back to Dorset. Most sensible idea BR had was the REP/TC Cl 33 idea which should have been extended to other electric/diesel routes. Example that comes to mind is splitting ECML sets for Glasgow and Aberdeen portions at Waverley rather than running diesel under the wires all the way south to/from Kings X.

Agree lively at Micheldever, regulars knew when to avoid a coffee spill.

Heard of the 8 REP runs also. Same horsepower as a Deltic?

A single 4-REP had 3200 hp installed, so was not far off a Deltic on its own.

Put it this way, even with a single 4tc up front the units were very fast out of the stops i can still remember looking at the speedo through the corridoor cab door on one day trip to Swanage, in the early days , when they only had a mile of track ;) between basingstoke and Southampton to see it hard against the screw:eek:, it was a rather lively run, we were late leaving Woking, so the driver was going for it :) we arrived at Bournemouth right time, the 33 came on, got as far as the next station and died i never did get to Swanage :(
