Totally agree Shoddy but I do think it's about time WCR sorted this problem, to my mind once or twice OK but all the time seems unprofessional.
Ian's 5's aren't doing this all the time.

    Cheers Dave

From the vids I've seen almost all WCR's stanier's seem to have sticky drain cocks - unless of course there is a reason to run with them open, but I thought that was just while the cylinders warmed up to operating temperature? - If nothing else its worth fixing just because the noise would irritate the hell out of me if I was on the support crew/footplate!

AND it made her day seeing 44932, a bonus she wasn't expecting! :)

There's a difference in sounding unhealthy due to a mechanical problem and the sound of a sticky drain cock or two!

44932 seems to have that Drain cock issue more often then the other Black 5's seems to me.

Hence the phrase "didn't sound healthy" there IS a difference between that and saying "it sounded like a bag of nails" !! Seems to me that some people like to try and make a mountain out of a molehill that isn't there!.................................................................... o_O

But please folks can we please get back to the topic of this thread..................................................................................................................

The box packed up yesterday on the Royal Dutchy, and from the video's and peoples comments on that thread 44932 sounded worse and worse on the return journey, whether or not she is not well, the absence of said box meant no return ecs........................................... as yet!!

Hopefully whatever is ailing 44932 is a quick fix at Bristol..................................................................

as well as stuck drain cocks it was making a weird whistling noise when it was moving slowly at par...I would hasten to add I have no idea what that means in terms of whats broken!

It may have sounded worse, but it made it back, on its own, and only about half an hour late.

Ollie steaming past hitchin, well my flat with a nice chime, at 20:19. Sounded like a 47 leading though gauging by the exhaust noise

I kind of remember 5407 having this problem eternally in the late 1980's early 1990's when it was in its LMS livery
