Whatever the problem is, it isn't a good advert for steam or for that matter the owner.........................................................

Piston or valve problems at a guess, possibly broken rings hence jammed cylinder cocks.

Well there's a turn-up for the books. Maybe DBS are training another steam driver? It would be a perfect practise turn...

And here it is, at West Byfleet, but we kick off with an impressive burst of speed up the hill and out of the temporary speed restriction at Bentley ( it was 2 minutes down and had to clear the single line section for the incoming Waterloo > Alton service) Could have been a complete waste of time, but this mornings filming turned out to be rather good in the end.

The ECS from Sunday 1 Sep 's ill fated Royal Duchy returns on 5Z40 19:20 Bristol to Southall this evening behind the now-refuelled Class 47. Not sure if 44932 is included in this train.

there was quite a collection outside Southall this morning… a black 5 (presumably 44932) Tornado and Cromwell I think (went past at speed).

Nice to see as I ran out of time to get to Byfleet. Where did it turn around?

Guildford. Seem to recall when the mid-Hants ran their own Daylight Railtours many years ago they often ran t/f Alton to Guildford and reversed there.

Ah, Daylight Railtours. The days when you could get exactly what you paid for almost 100%.
Travelled on a few of them without any worries or doubts unlike these days.

Yes, I travelled on some excellent Daylight Railtours trips ... but several I was booked on were cancelled for various reasons, I had a couple of diesel substitutions/assistance due to fire risk, several changes to advertised loco (non-availability of 34016 on several occasions), a couple of changed routes ... sound familiar? No criticism of Daylight Railtours though and things were certainly a lot better than they are at the moment, but rose-tinted spectacles are wonderful things.
