    James,

    Why is your post deleted???????????

Its strange that you should mention this............................................ Last Tuesday the Mrs was standing at the level crossing at White Hart Lanes in Barnes and saw almost exactly that, coming into Town, except without the box......................... and said someone even came up to the opposite side and took photo's...................... I asked her what the loco looked like and showed her various pictures....................... and Tangemere is what she recognised....................................... and like you I checked RTT etc, Nothing on the system!! I thought she was seeing things.................................................... so do we have a ghost running round the system? Do we have an apple green machine down here that no one knows about (that would fit the light green description........................)?????? The mind boggles, the mystery deepens..................................... In a word, WEIRD!!!

    Diesels in black...

it has all the hall marks of someone shunting the strategic reserve steam fleet around again.

An apple green Bulleid?! That's definitely weird.

As for the black diesel - that's easy. It was the new build 10000 on a test run.

The Mrs is adamant that it looked like Tangers, but the colour was light green.......................... strategic reserve on the move?.............................................. There aint a flat top in sunshine livery on the mainline (now wouldn't that be nice!! :))

Perhaps 34067 has had a repaint into Southern livery (like 34023) while she has been back at Carnforth? They painted Galatea in LMS colours with BR numbers and tender transfers.

We're certainly stumped by it Dave! The only question that remains unanswered, is whether this was an MPV/RHTT set that was 'doing it's thing'. But short of using a burning 70, I don't know where the black diesel came from?

I did wonder whether it could've been 61306 (unlikely, I know), but I hear that's still being worked on at Washwood Heath. I don't think there are any other apple green/malachite green engines on the ML at the minute, so as you say, the mind boggles!

34067 is still at Carnforth as far as I'm aware...............................

As for Galatea, she is NOT in LMS colours nor BR Livery, and that comes from several of my old mans mates who KNOW about these things, so one can only assume we call it Carnforth/WCRC maroon?............................... ;)

No James, it was not, the Mrs is POSITIVE that it was a steam loco clanking along, steam coming from the cylinders and soft exhaust from the chimney.......... in the shape of Tangers (I showed her pictures of various loco's that I thought it could be and as soon as she saw one of 34067, she said that was it!!) on its own, no box, no POV heading towards the smoke.........................never mind some guy pitched up on the opposite side whipped a camera out of a bag, and toddled off once it had passed!! and your mate saw/heard it in Salisbury, so a "return" journey kind of fits! And there's no flat tops down that neck of the woods, not even Yeovil!!.......................... I was going to post on here, just as you did, but stopped short, thinking that people on here would think I'd been over doing the wacky baccy!!

God, this is worse than trying to find the Loch Ness Monster..................................................
