Looking at the first clip at around 15 seconds in there is someone leaning out of a window. This is a chef from Gravy train, showing that some of the catering staff are already on board and no doubt busy with food prep for the following day.

Very good shot - but what a farce that a loco in steam (i.e. capable of powering itself) is deemed to require two class 31 diesels to move it! Our railway has gone mad with the amount of wasteful motive power employed today!

Deepgreen, the inclusion of a diesel towing No. 60163 results in less water being consumed by the engine, meaning longer distances can be run between watering stops. The inclusion of a second diesel could just easily be because after dropping off No. 60163 at the NVR, both diesels required elsewhere in that area of the country. That saves a seperate move for the second diesel.

It wasn't deemed to require two diesels. DCR are contracted to move 60163 on engine and coach moves and only have Avery small poo of drivers and fireman so did not have the required man power to do said move so choose to use there own diesels instead. As said above the May have two locos to save on another l/e move.

Am I right in thinking if you do a move with a Diesel towing a loco in light steam, you don't actually need a qualified mainline steam driver with route knowledge as if the loco was under it's own power ?, such people are few and hard to roster at short notice.

I believe you do but the driver doesn't need to sign the road.

See my post #849. You might want to phone NVR to get departure time.

Just phoned Nene valley - a Tornado will be sweeping up the East Coast Main Line in the early afternoon on Saturday on it's way to West London.

If you look at the last entry in Column 1 at the top of the page it notes "Empty Coaching Stock".

    Now I'm confused.
The UK steam LE movements page for this shows the move as cancelled and the link on that page to Realtime Trains produces a 'couldn't find schedule' message. However the link posted above does lead to a valid schedule in RTT!

The fact it's still there does not mean anything, yes the schedule is still on the system but until it is activated, usually the morning of the move, it is just a planned schedule that may or may not be used.

Cancelled message for Tornados move from NVR now removed and timings stand. I had heard it was going to be early on Saturday morning, so maybe that was cancelled and hence the confusion.
