would i be right in assuming that Bodmin will be continueing her northwards bound journey by road then, or will they flood the bearing wait for it to cool and try to drag her to carnforth?

it does make you wonder, how much work was done on preparing the loco for its drag up north it ran from Alton to Southall without running hot, yet got as far as Rugby , then stafford, does anyone know which axle ran hot? was it on the engine or tender

Surely someone from NR would be involved in inspecting her and then giving permission for the journey.

you would think so, was the engine/ tender jacket up, bearings examined oil ways checked oil ran through everything its very good fortune that there are sidings at Rugby and Stafford had there not been having 34016 sit down blocking the line would have not been good news for west coast

I would guess that if it has a tops classification, then its the responsibility of the TOC to check ensure its fit to run.

I would guess there is a very good reason for the planned move by rail as opposed to road transport, maybe they are worried about warping the frames if its ramped up onto a low loader? It has been stood for a long time and my have some structure defects

My understanding is that the short answer is no - owner/operators responsibility to do the FTR. (I say both as I understand much mainline steam gets the FTR from the owners when not also the operator, and the same will probably be true for modern stock when maintained by the manufacturer like the TPE Siemens Class 185s).

34016 is not in the formation, neither is 57314; just 57313 plus the 2 coaches heading north this afternoon

so is Bodmin still at stafford? is there anywhere that she can be transfered to road transport near by or is she going to wait till this evening and they try to drag her in the early hours when there is less traffic

Yes Bodmin is still at Stafford; there is a second 5Z43 on RTT from Stafford to Carnforth for later so it sounds like you are correct in that assumption.

There is also a 0Z57 1620 Carnforth - Stafford light diesel move, presumably to top and tail Bodmin with 57314.

I hope she makes it OK this time. If not, as a "plan B", maybe they'll just take her as far as Crewe and try to trans-ship her there?

that would make better sence to put in at Crewe to inspect if needed , im a bit puzzled though why one of the 57's left with the coaches, unless it wasnt just a hot box if they had trouble with maintaining vacuum because of another fault ,
i would have thought that the coaches were needed for braking effort they could run on air brake, of course as bodmin is/was through fitted ,any one explain why it was thought necessary to run the coaches separate , then run another deisel L/E to Stafford
