Nice shotsNigel. Didn't get out to see it. Only found out about it late on.
Hope you had some shade on the bank while waiting on the return.
Last time I saw 44932 by the Midland Shed was back in 1977 leaving Carnforth in the company of another Black 5

Thanks Idris, it was rather uncomfortable but luckily I'd taken my umbrella with me so that was my only shade, this was one of the last times I saw 44932 on a rare southbound morning run on the S&C back in May 2013, then again in August with the IT57 45th Anniversary run.

Just seen a video of 44932's departure from Hellifield, it left (hauling its coach) from the DGL with an orange suited NR guy adjacent to the "problem" points. So whatever ailed the points appears to have been solved with a bit of manual intervention.

44932 good timing to get this locomotive back in service. Congratulations. That is 2 locomotives that have returned to steam in the fleet in 2022.

How many remember the period in the 1990s when there was a summer steam ban on the mainline from June to August

I believe that there are seasonal bans in parts of Oz although maybe their weather conditions are more predictable.

Italy is the same, generally no steam tours middle of June to middle of September. Most of Europe doesn't have a summer break, but a lot of tours and lines are running diesel or electric hauled this year.

Just saw steam just west of Didcot, on the up loop, facing west. Too surprised to take in what it was, Black 5?
