Just found this elsewhere whilst looking for what was referred to as a skip:

20s = choppers. Not sure why TBH. Also 'whistling wardrobes' because of the whistling sound combined with the large number of doors on the sides.
24s/25s = rats, supposedly because they were so common, you were never far from one.
26s/27s = McRats, like 24s/25s but found in Scotland
31s = peds due to their pedestrian performance, or Goyles because they were so ugly.
33s = Cromptons due to Crompton Parkinson traction motors (a bit lame this one TBF)
37s = growlers/tractors due to their noise, or Syphons for reasons I don't know
40s = whistlers due to the noise
44s = Peaks because they were named after mountains
45s/46s also Peaks because they were souped up 44s and weren't named after mountains
47s = duffs 'cos nobody likes 'em
50s = hoovers because before refurbishment they made a sort of sucking sound
52s = Westerns because they were on the Western Region and all called things like 'Western Champion' etc. Also 'whizzos'. Better ask someone who likes hydraulics why.
55s = Deltics. Powered by Napier 'Deltic' engines
56s = Grids because of the square horn grille on the front.
58s = bones because of their shape
66s = sheds because of the shape of the roof
67s = skips because if you turned a 67 upside down its shape would resemble a skip
81s-85s = roarers because they roared
    86s = electric duffs

I've also heard the term Bodysnatcher for the 57's because of there identical look to the 47's :nerd:

Also hear "Ronnies" for 57's because when 57601 was new with FGW it was painted Purple and nicknamed after the Purple Ronnie character in some adverts at the time.

Also heard 91's referred to as "stealth bombers" due to the streamlined front end, 90's are Skoda's never been told why, but presumably they had reliability issues early on.

t0622p.htm 46233 moving from Butterley to Tyseley on Friday for the Tyseley Open Weekend. Will it run tender first throughout or can tender and loco be separated while in steam to turn on the turntable at Tyseley?

Tyseley has a 70ft turntable? Why would they need to seperate loco and tender? If in doubt. Could always go down the north warks to Stratford. Round to hatton the head north up the DCL.

We can turn the Duchess. "Lizzie" is just a couple of inches too long and has to be seperated - just FYI

Looks like 46115 has moved from Carnforth to York today, so we know what will be on the first Yorkshire Coast and Scarborough Spa Expresses, probably the first Waverley too.

Yep, some reports elsewhere that 5305 will no longer be part of the Crewe pool.

44932 may be heading over with the stock for the Scarborough Spa's and Waverley's on Monday?

The Yorkshire Coast Express originates from Llandudno, so the stock probably wouldn't be based at York for this working.

I suppose it makes sense to have 2 loco's based at York with the number of runs there will be from there, leaving the 8F to handle the Fellsmans (and Mersey Moorlanders?).

4 loco's for Crewe (45305, 60009, 46233 & 70013) does seem a bit unbalanced compared to the York and Carnforth. Maybe it will be based at Carnforth instead? Presuming it will be running on the mainline.

8F is not much good for the Moorlanders, the schedule on the return is dep Carlisle at 16.11 to arrive Carnforth at 17.31, same as last year when 5305 had to go pretty hard to achieve that.
At 50mph the 8F is going to struggle to get near that.
