    With WWII coal shortages still a recent memory in (southern) Ireland, the same rationale drove development OVSB's 'Turf Burner' for the CIÉ.

    Yes there are several places on that stretch where troughs could have been installed, and one more a bit further on at Oakley. But after that there's only one more level stretch, around 110 miles from Waterloo. So you could keep refilling a small tender for the first 110 miles but with no further refills you wouldn't have nearly enough for all the banks the rest of the way to Exeter.
