    Something to so with the ATC fit out I think. Something to do with having a large ejector instead of a vacuum pump for the brakes.

    When we working on boiler ovehaul/retube of 92220 at Didcot after Rainhill we discovered that the Anti-forstalling valve had been blanked off... if you look it takes the form of a large diagraphram valve mounted over the large ejector on the side of the smokebox. connected to the brake pedestal in the cab by a small bore pipe

    we assumed it was there to stop the driver opening the large ejector after a brake aplication from the ATC. shades of Wotten Basset there......

    My late father John was signalman at Bromsgrove (box on the platform) 1960 to 62 - early in his railway career. He told me about the cutaway section on the 9f tender for coaling at the small stage.

    Martins 9fs incidentally look superb.
