I must admit atfer BR steam eneded in 1968 i lost interest for a few years, its was onlky when I realised the North brits, hydraulics on the WR were going that I started running around again trying to phot all the warships, hymeks and NBs, I only wish now I`d have spent a little more time chasing the industrial steam, some of which lasted till 1973 at least

Well racking the brains comes up with one suitable candidate of diesel (with a garratt pedigree)

That would be the last locomotive to be built by Beyer Peacock, the class 25 currently owned by a prominent figure at WCRC and based at Carnforth

Wide of the mark or Hit? :-k

*edit* or thinking on, seeing as the Duke is coming from Bury could it be bringing a certain Beyer Peacock Hymek?

Not much, buts its an impressive coup to display at the museum and a good example of latter day steam locomotive technology to compare with the replica Planet!

An example of the UK's first and last design of purpose built express passenger loco classes alongside each other- a first??? Certainly make an interesting comparison.

Cant argue with 71000 as an exhibit, glad to see MOSI hosting mainline steam once more !

This presumably is describing the builder which fabricated mechanical parts for the 263 Brush Type 2 A1A-A1A that later became the Class 31, built the 3rd series of Claytons ( D8588 - 8616 ), built the most successful Type 3 design for BR ( D7000 - D7100 ) which was scrapped by the bean counters cos it had hydraulic transmission despite its better reliability record and only failed when it took on a BR order for Class 25s ( D7624 - 7677 / 25274 - 25327 ) at a fixed price that was less than the materials cost thus forcing BP into bankruptcy once D7659 / 25309 had been completed leaving Derby Works to complete the series by building D7660 - 7677 / 25310 - 25327.

But then I suppose industrial locomotives are only as big as the industries which use them.

    D7659 / 25309 is also preserved.

Being 25909 it was preserved by Peter Waterman from Warrington Bank Quay and initially went to the East Lancs Railway.
I believe it's now in store at West Coast Rail in Carnforth, and would surely be a very significant attendee to this event working or static.. it is BP's last loco.

Plus a class of rancid diesels for BR, the Hymek Type 3, as well as a few Class 17s and 25s. Then there was the AL2/Class 82 electrics for BR. Most of their output went for export.

Before the locomotives arrive , in come the wagons, 3 16" tonners these will hopefully be used in the freight train at the events photo night. The box vans have had a re-build and a re-paint by the railway volunteers.

The Beyer 0-4-0st No. 1827 was unloaded at about 1:30pm this afternoon and is now safely tucked away in the powerhall. Will try and post some pictures up later.

William Francis now safely sat in Liverpool Road station after unloading and an hour long struggle to get through the main gate bringing chaos to the Castlefield area of Manchester!
