Class 47 D1566 passed her fitness to run exam yesterday and completed a successful test run from Llan to Carrog yesterday. She should therefore be fit to take part next weekend! Paul Williams's photo below shows the Type 4 at the freight dock on the Pentrefelin branch - just after pacing 6940 away from Goods Junction.

We also have nearly 90 vintage vehicles registered.

We're travelling up for the weekend and stopping at Carrog station campsite, unfortunately we won't be attending the saturday evening because I find it a little irritating to pay for a full gala ticket just for the evening return from Carrog to Llangollen. Plus there are no 2-day fares available! I'm only really coming up for Foxy (I need more website content!) as last time we did, my camera was playing silly buggers! The only other option is to travel friday night, so I can get a full day at the railway saturday and then do 'family day' on sunday! Just makes life a little harder, thats all!
Hopefully see some of you there?
    Regards

Is there no cheaper Saturday evening/night rover? Though tbh as I can't attend I've not looked at prices etc.

Is the quoted £13 a rover fare? If so, I can't really see what the fuss is about, I've paid far more than that for evening rovers at plenty of galas!

The normal LR return fare is £11. The £13 fare this weekend is a Rover, provides unlimited bus rides and includes the evening concert. Entry to Llangollen station is £2 per person to non ticket holders for the weekend. We therefore feel that, even on the evening, £13 isn't too unreasonable given you can still attend the concert - so there are no evening fares.

Running an event such as this incurs a lot of extra costs, including the late trains and especially so when they are steam hauled rather than by DMU like they were last year. This year 7822 works late into the night on the rake with the Thompson buffet offering a full bar service. It should be great!

The finishing touches for the weekend are coming along nicely. The below shot shows Mk1 CK 16071 at Pentrefelin today - just needing coach lines and numbering. Out of interest this was the first Mk1 coach to arrive at the Railway in preservation – so it’s rather appropriate that it is also the first coach to return to BR blue and grey on the Railway - which is what it arrived wearing!

Excellent work Tez, looking good shame I can't be there this weekend :(

And yes £13 is goo value just for an evening ticket, let alone a Day Rover. I've forked out £15 for an evening ticket before now at some railways, and got a lot less.

Will hopefully be visiting the event on the Sunday all being well. Could anyone advise which way 7822, 68030 & 44806 face? I believe locos usually face Carrog but are there exceptions?

Also (bit of a longshot) does anyone know the planned journey time on the buses between Llan & Carrog?

The gala looked pretty busy today. The hurriedly repainted blue/grey mark one looked really good - well done lads. The 'dirtied' & plateless 'Manor' also looked great.
Now for the bad bit. I was working on my brake van in Pentrefelin yard this morning, looked up & saw two photographers walking along the track, intent on crossing the Dee bridge. There is no clearance on the Dee bridge should one encounter a train. Neither of these idiots was wearing a vis vest, which was immaterial really as they had no right to be trackside. I challenged them & sent them packing back to where they had come from. One of our signal & telegraph lads later told me that this pair had told him to move a yellow p. way trolley as it was spoiling their photos.
I wonder if this pair actually spent any money on the railway.

If there's no clearance on the bridge, I'd say the wearing or otherwise of a high vis vest is largely irrelevant!

    Thanks,
    Lewis
