The 38's wheels have gone to the south devon to be re-profiled. Jessies have also gone to the south devon for a new set of tyres.
Have been told that there may be a problem with one of 3802's axels, but not sure how true that rumor is, so i wont go any further...

3802's boiler is having stay repairs around the front of the firebox. Looking like it could be out of traffic for a while...

Shes come out of the shed into the yard so could be ready now.

Loco roster for santas are online now. 5643 getting a few turns. Get a go with 6430 for the Mince Pie Specials though. That will be fun \:D/

For those interested in progress on 6880

As well as Jessies and 3802s wheels 6880s bogie wheels went down to the SDR for new tyres

When they come back we may look towards building the bogie

    Hi 6880:

Any chance of updating your website with any latest construction news please? At present it dates from June.

    Hi 46118

We suffer with a webperson who does not really get involved with the building of 6880 nor does he chase us for news so things somtimes get left behind and then we play catch up.

I can say the news letter for 6880 is now in charge of Paul Appleton (you might find his name in Hornby magazine ) and the latest news letter is just going out to all our members

I will endeaour to get the website update with pics of progress etc but seriously there is so much going on its just something that got left behind.

    Small update.
As reported elsewhere on this forum the Standard tanks boiler has been steamed and in preperation for it return the tanks have been taken off:

The Santa's are in full swing with the 56xx tank and the 4F working them. Picture below and sorry for the quality as it was a clear day and the sun was bright.

80072. Over the past 18 years all of the components of the loco have been restored and refitted to the loco. Then over two weekends most of them were taken back off again! One step forward then two steps back and all that!

I think you will find very little restored parts as most of 80072 is new Including a new bogie wheel

I know Pete was sick of copper pipework, a western loco is far easier he reckons

I know that the external presentation is only superficial, and the real work has gone on "inside" the boiler/firebox to effect the overhaul, but it is good to see a unit returned in such a tidy condition. Looks as though it has just left the shops in 1950--something when it was first built.

    Well done LNWR.

Not quite all on the inside! Everything in front of the firebox tubeplate, apart from the dome, is brand new! You can also see the weld around the firebox! There are also corner patches on the back corners of the firebox. A majority of the stays are oringinal, due to them being made from a better type of alloy. (Monel (i think!!!))

Add a few thousand rivets, and hey presto. A brand new(ish) boiler...

Thanks. I must admit that the boiler barrel plate did look "new", ie no pitting whatsoever. I didn't realise how "new"!

Should be good for more than a few years...!

    Regards

Weird how putting the boiler outside makes it seem small...!?!?! Its not that way when its on the loco or in the shed, then it looks a huge lump of metal! Good to see it back, and I look forward to seeing 80072 completed! Good job to all involved!

It looks tiny doesn't it! Just wait for the smokebox to be bolted on, then it will look a bit bigger. Had a newer photo of it emailed to me today, all of the mudhole doors and washout plugs in the bottom of the firebox have been removed, so i'm guessing it may be in the frames tomorrow or thursday.
