lms 2500 to steam?

    Are you sure about this? That's the first I've heard of it having worked in preservation, never seen any photos of it in steam, and the SR article also states that it hasn't. Or is it your own crafty April Fool as it was posted on the 1st?!

    No 2500 in the 70s did run at bressingham doing cab rides as did 70013, william francis and im not sure weather 6233 did aswel.

    As others have shown, 2500 most definitely did steam whilst it was at Bressingham. Just goes to show how unreliable SR articles can be.

    Well that's shown me then! I honestly had no idea and am very surprised! A gorgeous loco, will be lovely to see it somewhere a little less restricted than the Bressingham SG demonstration line if this happens.

    Would look nice at svr with there crab a Jub. Royal Scot 6201 for a gala to raise money for the patriot lol.

    Interesting idea, even though 2500 was a LTSR loco, unlike her later 2-cylinder Stanier 2-6-4T cousins - indeed, by coincidence I've just seen a photo of the now-preserved (close relative) Fairburn 2-6-4T tank 42085 leaving Grosmont for Whitby with a Malton-Whitby train some time before 1965 - now THAT would be a worthy recreation...but I digress :)

    Without checking before I post ( dangerous....) I suspect that this engine only ever carried LMS black and BR black livery, so for a "gala" thing would be more at home with say Black 5s, the Stanier Mogul on the SVR, and of course the Fairburn from Lakeside, etc. Rather than talking about mixing it with LMS Pacifics, Scots and the like. No relevence at all to the Compound, which anyway is Scotland-bound from the SVR.
    This will be a popular and powerful engine in the preserved line scene, SVR, NYMR etc, Less than 1000 lb lower tractive effort than a Black 5. Perhaps not so popular with crews though, more demanding to prep compared to a 2-cylinder engine.

    A LMS gala with 2500, 15189, 17566, 2968, a Black crab, endless Black 5s, a few Jubilees and Pacifics would be very nice!

    Neil: You might say that, but there comes a point where a gala has too many engines, such that each engine only manages a small number of turns because so many engines have to be fitted in to the roster.
    The 2-6-4 tank would really sit alongside mixed traffic types, unless of course your penchant is for LMS pacifics tiptoeing along the SVR or similar.

    Well, one: my comment is purely hypothetical and two, if you have a big enough railway you can fit in everything ie like the SVR or NYMR.

    So how many sets can svr and nymr have at the most. It Will be interesting to know who would have the most out of all the preserved lines. How many could a fully open double track gcr ie from ruddington down.

    The SVR have two sets of 8 mark 1's, a set of LNER+GNR teaks (with a mark 1 on the back sometimes), a set of LMS coaches, a full 8 GWR set ,and 3 other GWR, a mark 1 buffet and a mark 1 BSO. This doesn't count the dinning coaches of which the Venturer are used during a Gala. Of course there are a few coaches being restored and overhauled so the number may be higher soon.

    In other words, the SVR can muster six sets of 7/8 carriages (one set dining) for a gala. When you throw in the demonstration freight, that makes seven. I doubt that can be trumped.

    I didn't say "who has the most coaching rakes"! The point I was trying to make was that beyond a certain number of "gala" engines, engines end up with fewer turns and therefore standing around doing nothing for too long. Wasn't there a gala somewhere last year where people turned up for "engine x" only to find it only got one round trip because there were so many on the roster?

    Anyway it isn't coaching rakes, its available paths including crossing points that determines the maximum number of trains a line can field at any one time. As far as I am aware that is the limiting factor on virtually all our heritage lines. If the SVR were to put out every rake they have, throw in the diner and a freight, then I respectfully suggest no-one will be going very far at all.

    Sorry i too meant how many paths. But i wrongly worded it. Who has the most paths then. Lets say 2500 was to be steamed and lets say it was in 2013/2014. All hypothetical of course, don't want anyone quoting me saying that's what Will happen lol. Would somewhere like the gcr,with the branch line off open by then. Would that create some more paths. Or the churnet valley railway with its 11 mile extension to stoke possibly open by then.
