Cheers Irwellsteam !
One or both cylinders from 48518?
They are to be newly cast apparently - it was in SR or HR this month
Thanks, don't read the beano or dandy! Was there mention of a batch? Could be considerable scope to reduce costs through economies of production in bulk. Must be other 5s likely to need new cylinders in due course.
Couldnt they source a pair from the 8F in Turkey thats being stripped down / scrapped for 44901 ?
(The boiler/tender/pony wheels seem to be claimed already)... cylinders still spare ?
Would need shimming out. Different frame thickness.
Kevin West has nearly finished the CAD work for the outside cylinders to be cast from Poly Patterns. If any other groups from black 5s need the file contact Kevin. He is also available for contract work if other locos want CAD work doing.
There is a great blog covering 5025's restoration - updated 13th November: http://thewatkinsontrust.blogspot.co.uk/
The front bogie is on, big lift for the driving wheels expected before end of December
5025 was rewheeled last week: https://www.facebook.com/black55025/posts/2098891273716179
The state of play: http://thewatkinsontrust.blogspot.com/
Outside motion being attended to as well as original features being added to return 5025 to 'as built' condition, such as the cross-head vacuum pumps.
