I'm sure no-one would notice the rest ;). I tend to prefer the rebuilt Fowler 4-6-0s by Stanier than their original form, hence asking the (slightly cheeky) question.

This is now getting to the end of our wheel saga, all approved by VAB, mistakes that were made havent cost us any money as we didnt make the mistake.
Also this week the CAD work was completed on the front Bogie
    [IMG]

and last but not least.... my custom Polos for my 3 year old son have been finished
    [IMG]

I got him a black and maroon one. for some very strange reason he likes to wear clothes to match me. So i thought why not...... so if you see us out and about you know who we are.

Yes. Were expecting it to cost in the region of £60, 000 finished. We have had a £2, 000 donation towards the patern for the black casting in the pic. I believe the patern is to be started asap.

It's interesting that the project is using Fowler pattern wheels but the Stanier pattern of bogie. Is there a reason for this?

In theory the first main batch of Patriots (ie after the Claughton wheeled ones) had Fowler wheels and the later batch had Stanier V-rim wheels throughout. In practice, however, they seemed to be mixed indiscriminately. As an example I am intending to finish an 0 gauge Patriot as 45543 Home Guard which should have V-rims but I have 3 photos all taken between 1956 and 1962 and in each one it has different wheelsets! In one photo 45543's bogie had one Fowler wheelset and one Stanier pattern. The leading driving wheels were V-rim, the others were Fowler pattern! So basically anything goes. Ray.

Strange, I am sure that they are Stanier Jubilee wheels.

You have to remember we're using 8f wheelsets and axle boxes. So there Stanier style wheels.

Are you really sure you're using 8F wheelsets for a Patriot?

I've looked again at the photos and you're right they are Stanier wheels.

Which goes to show that I shouldn't come back from pub and then post on here!

However nowithstanding this and being now perfectly sober, I'm still concerned about the Stanier pattern bogie. My references show that all but the first ten Patriots had Fowler's 6'-3" wheelbase bogie and that this bogie was standard with his 0-6-4T, the 2-6-4T, the Royal Scots and the first five Jubilees. The Stanier 6'-6" bogie which the CAD drawing appears to depict was fitted to the rest of the Jubilees, Lizzies, Duchesses, his and Fairburn's 2-6-4T and the rebuilt Scot/Patriot/Jubilees.

Would anyone like to comment further?

    Regards

Photographic evidence shows 45551 with a complete set of Stanier pattern wheels, yet rebuild 45529 has Stanier drivers and Fowler bogie wheels.

This looks more like Brit bogie than a Princess /Duchess /Castle bogie although the suspension and side control arrangements are similar.

Page 66 of 'Claughton & Patriot 4-6-0s by G. Toms and R.J. Essery (Wild Swan 2006) ISBN 1 905184 19 0 shows the LMS drawing of this bogie, No DRG D1235. It states: 'Arrangement of bogie with side bolsters. This drawing shows the original frames, axleboxes, wheels and spring gear that was used with a new side bolster centre for locomotives Nos. 5512-5551.'
