Thank you for the latest updates on this fantastic project. The images of the smokebox and the frames really illustrate how far this amazing scheme has progressed. I'm really looking forward to seeing it at Warley in November; it will be a sight to take one's breath away I'm sure!

    Not on Facebook, unfortunately.
The "latest news" section on the 45551 website has not been updated since May, either.

I've txt'd Gav to prompt him to update here, I'll do the same for that website too. There's a lot going on I believe, with a major progress update due in around a fortnight. (I have no connection with the project b-t-w other than being friends with Gav via the CVR).

Thanks Sheff, as another 'do not use social media' I was also wondering what has been happening recently.

Here is a run down on the latest progress at the start of August.

    Llangollen
Work continues on fitting the platforms to the locomotive frames.
The coupled axle horn guides and cross stays are being machined and fitted prior to being permanently mounted on the frame.
The Inside Cylinder is having some additional work undertaken prior to mounting in the frames.
The motion work acquired last year is undergoing refurbishment.
    Reparations for painting continue.

    Tyseley Locomotive Works
Driving Wheelsets arrived from South Devon Engineering at beginning of July.
Work continues on machining driving axleboxes.
Driving Wheelsets to be balanced and have tyres turned before axleboxes are fitted to wheelsets.
Wheelsets should move to Llangollen end September.

    Elsewhere
Work continues on machining castings for Platform supports.
Patterns being made for the outside motion brackets. These are due to be cast in the next 4-6 weeks.
Patterns and castings for the Motion Girders to follow.

    Design Work
Main work at present is the preparation of cad files and drawings for the Cab.
This needs to be checked to ensure it conforms to loading gauge requirements.
Other areas being worked on include brake cylinder mounting (ex 48518) and brake gear cross beams, hangers, brake shoes etc.
Preliminary work started on cad work for outside cylinders.

Next months Steam Railway includes an article on the Project.
Behind the scenes with the LMS-Patriot Project and their progress with the construction of No. 45551 The Unknown Warrior

Regards to the website I have flagged this twice with regards missing june and july updates. Ill feed back that im not the only person who has noticed.

Generally you don't need to have a Facebook log-in or be logged-in to Facebook to see pages. But for some reason, the Patriot content is only visible to logged-in users. Which seems a bit daft.

Here are the driving wheels getting ready to leave Buckfastliegh and head to Tyseley.

the centre casting for the bogie was cast last week then shot blasted. It is in the Dressing Shop.

More bogie parts - 14 of them in this view, and 13 of them were ready to go today. Final dressing and drilling on the one being worked on was all that was required pre-lunch.

and a few miles to the north, in Brierley Hill, at Harco Engineering Limited, the machining of the middle cylinder had been making good progress. Now delivered to Llan.

Our front end coming on at Llan.

Magical. Not sure what I am more excited by in terms of new build steam locomotives - the Saint, Beachy Head or this. They're all coming on beautifully and I consider myself lucky to be at an age where I'll be able to enjoy them in steam in future. Keep up the great work.

Hi guys, i spoke to the webmaster as soon as you mentioned the updates on the Official website and he has added the June and July news pages and next week he will update it with the August section.

so to keep you upto date with Kevin Wests work here is a Fantastic CAD drawing produced last week.
from Kevin "This week as part of the cab design verification I have completed the cad work on the reverser. Pure London North Western design as used on the Claughton and Precursor classes."

and then his latest update today

Today's work on the Cab has been checking clearance for the Reach Rod from the Reverser to the Weighshaft. To do this has meant modelling the Weighshaft Brackets, Weighshaft and Levers.

Got my issue today. Nice picture on the cover of the front end complete with oil lamps. Looks almost complete if you don't look too closely.
