This will be a good opportunity to get my opening ceremony costume out - do you think they'll let me in first class wearing it?

And no, I'm not one of the nurses!

"Last Sunday morning (December 16), around 2am, Metropolitan Railway 0-4-4T No. 1 ran from Ealing Common depot through to Moorgate."

Does that mean it will travel into town along the District Line on Jan 13 and 20? IE Through Acton Town, Chiswick Park, Turnham Green etc?

Apart from the nurses, doesn't look like 1st class passenger material to me, get thee to thy milk wagon instead.

Look like they belong in the open wagon used on the test run the other night ;)

Timings and my understanding of the tube map suggest District Kenny O - Notting Hill and then clockwise round the northern part of the Circle to to Moorgate, do I have that right ?.

    Re: LU 150 plans...

It's starting from Lillie Bridge depot on 13th and 20th, but I guess it will have to work up from Acton to Lillie Bridge before then. Trials with milk van and Chesham set too at some point?

I gather there was a contingency run booked in this weekend too, but given that last weeks trial seemed to go off without a hitch I doubt this will be used.

    Re: LU 150 plans...

My understanding is that the Milk van will be used for emergency water supply.

It's quite a big load. The Chesham set alone is about 80 tons; probably add about 12 tons each for 353 and the milk van gives 105 tons empty; more if you add a few tons of water. Plus there is Sarah Siddons, 62 tons I believe. So with passengers that's probably about 170 tons if Sarah Siddons is just dead weight (i.e. does no work).

    What are the gradients like?

Fair play to them for thinking about the Milk Van for water instead of taking the easy option of tagging a modern wagon on.

How long till we get any suggestions of Sarah Siddons assisting ? :behindsofa:

With so many people likely to be on the underground trying to see and take photos - what sort of strategies does TfL have for dealing with the crowds? Will stations or platforms be closed as the train passes through? Christ there'll probably be people setting up tripods all over the place.

    Re: LU 150 plans...

My dad went to Acton today, open day for invited guests and sponsors. They were told the watering will be done at Moorgate.

LU byelaws state people can be removed from the platform if they've been there for more than 15 mins! Probably not enforcable, but they have said if platforms become too overcrowded they reserve the right to close the stations.

First evening train on 20th is steam from Kenny O to Gloucester Road, then No. 12 to Moorgate. This is so, when the train sits at Baker St for 20 mins on the next 2 runs, it's not sitting under the signal control room!

The possibility of Santa Specials on the Uxbridge branch is being investigated for next year, depending on pathing.

I'm not sure tripods are allowed on the Underground, not that they will be much use anyway, there won't be the time/room for a time exposure shot at Moorgate and it's no good for moving shots unless you want an "arty blur", High ISO & Prime Lens looks to be the only way of getting reasonable still pictures.

Im not sure how enforceable the crowd limits will be anyway, I'm planning to change locations between runs, so can't stop me travelling when I've paid for a ticket, and I'm sure many others will have the same idea.

I been to Victoria Station ( Underground) in the rush hour and they have stopped people entering the station - gates pulled across when there have been too many people on the platform and no further people allowed until the platforms have cleared sufficiently. I have also travelled via Bank Station when for up to a week East bound Central line trains did not stop at Bank to stop/ reduce risk of over crowding due to building work.

Regarding the right to remove passengers from platforms who have been there for more than 15 minutes - better make sure you never just miss a train at Chesham, then, with its half-hourly service!

As 5944 says, legally they can if you've been there for more than 15 minutes, as, presumably, during that time several trains which you could have travelled on will have called at that station. However, I hope common sense will prevail and people will only be asked to leave if the stations are becoming dangerously overcrowded (although do woinder whether we may find that the definition of "dangerously overcrowded" may differ on the evenings of Sunday 13th and 20th January 2013 to that which applies during the rush hour on a typical weekday.

The underground is pretty strict on crowd control (can you blame them ?). Many stations (all the main stations, Bank and others) will have flow control during rush hours regularly.

I would imagine on the night there will be quite tight control on the platforms, and wouldn't be surprised if there was an element of cajoling people onto the next train to prevent lingering.. theres no doubt it will be safety first.
My guess is there will be a controlled limit on people being allowed to photograph the train, and at a certain part of the platform.. everyone else will be "all aboard" or extracted.

I may not get to see the underground trains, I know people who are travelling, but will be hoping to go to some of the open days and see an England or so...

    Re: LU 150 plans...

Is it likely that the timing (exact or approximate) of the initial journey from Ealing Common depot, through Acton Town, along the District to Lillie Bridge will become available in advance?

I doubt it, but I suspect it will be a middle of the night move once the regular service has ceased, certainly all the other non passenger runs thus far have been.
