It'll be in a publication at work known as the ewsa, might even be in it already. Sadly I'm not back at work until the 4th. If I hear of anything I'll need to run it by people internally and through the mod's here / via pm.

Excellent plug for LU150 event this afternoon on LBC radio by newly knighted SIR Peter Hendy, encouraging people to go and watch the steam trains, and soak up the "smokey" "Sherlock Holmes" style Victorian atmosphere !

How are they going to stop everyone with a mobile phone taking videos, I waould say it will be virtually impossible to police unless you go armed with big camera and tripod.

    Re: LU 150 plans...

Over the past couple of weeks I've taken pics on the Underground while searching out likely spots for LUL150 as well as trying out different ISO settings on my camera. Not once has anyone asked to see a permit or even spoken to me about what I was doing.

I agree with Ralph. Only those with bulky equipment like tripods are likely to be challenged. This event could be just as easily cause disruption through those without cameras as those with them I'd have thought ?

"Spamcan81"s experience suggests a level of common sense is being applied when enforcing certain regs by the sound. A healthy development on previous years.

Controlling the number of people on platforms of all types is likely to be the priority on the day surely, as it is on LUL whenever large crowds are anticipated ?

The only message played out on the underground about photography is " flash photography is not permitted at any London Underground station"
    common sense really.

millions of tourists visit the UK every year and take home at least one picture of the underground...

if your planning to publish for cash any pictures, I would go the permit route, if its for Fun, Flickr, Facebook etc.. I'm sure you'll be fine, as long as you can carry your equipment over your shoulder or in your coat pocket... But industrial amounts of equipment without a permit or planning carrying a tripod..not in the tunnels.

my experience of LUL staff is they are very reasonable, and probably very excited too on the night, much easier than say staff at Waterloo or Kings Cross can be, but they will enforce rules on crowd control, safety etc.

    Uh oh... :argue:

Looking at visiting on the 13th (wasn't successful in the ballot) so will have to find locations overground. Unfortunately, I don't own a small tripod anymore, nor a small camera and can't afford the fee to get on the platforms - I might need to invest in a cheap little HD camera quickly if I find suitable locations!

Fee? AFAIK a valid Underground travel ticket will suffice.

    If its personal use..
if its commercial i suspect not (but if it was commercial with a permit there will almost certainly be a "press area" with the best views reserved...)

trouble with the tube is its rather captive.. Not many "behind the fence" locations to be had, but if its personal.. It's just another bunch of tourists taking pictures ( just rather a lot) and good luck with enforcing the no flash ban.

This is what I was meaning (I re-read what I originally wrote and I think I misunderstood what had been said on the website), and didn't mean platform fee at all.

I'll be there on the 20th of course and the Met Bar is as good a place as any. Also a 'Spoons within a few yards of Farringdon but being in the City is doesn't open late on Sundays, 20:00 IIRC.

I think Moorgate, Farringdon, Barbican and Baker St will be the better stations for photography,
kings cross is a modern single platform (very bright but also very busy with "normals"),
Euston Sq is some what grim at the best of times.
Baker St the most atmospheric and historic looking by far.

one thing is certain... You'll not get a shot without someone walking up in front of you.. Those usual niceties of turning up 20 mins early and the next person showing up goes behind will be out of the window..this will be a free for all..
Just like the last Routemaster and last concorde flights was... Thats Londoners for you.

    Re: LU 150 plans...

Any station with the a two platform layout with the tracks between the two will be good as you can get on the far platform and thus get a bit of width in the shot and hopefully a few less heads.

On the one run from Kenny O, Notting Hill Gate & Paddington (district line), looks alright with attractive over roofs too.

    Re: LU 150 plans...

My understanding of the LUL photo garb is/was that you only needed a permit for commercial use, personal use is ok long as you don't use flash or a tripod (would be seen as an obstruction).

I think the biggest headache they'll have on the day with be from the non enthusiasts with point and shoot camera's totally oblivious to the no flash rule.

Unless I'm mistaken, a ticket covering zones 1/2 covers the entire route from Kenny O - Moorgate.
