I was lucky enough to take a look at Lyd yesterday morning at Boston Lodge. Work is proceeding well in such areas as fabricating the cab sides but from what I saw I would guess that in steam in May is very 50-50. In steam and moving very unlikely.

We'll all have to be patient!

    Cheers

It's allready been mentioned that progress will slow untill the metalwork for the Welshpool coach is done which is an outside contract and if its anything like the last one there will be a bonus for finishing it on time. A photo of LYDs current status can be found on the FR socity website at http://cms.pro-action.co.uk

I think the metalwork for our coach is done - the body was on the underframe and progressing rapidly when I was there yesterday.

Spoke to James Evans regarding Lyd the other week - he's not 100% in touch with where exactly Lyd is currently as he is concentrating on getting his Garrett going, but the jist of what he said is:

    * Launch date is 1st May if Lyd can make it.
    * Lyd is on the back burner whilst contract work is being undertaken (i.e. Welshpool carriage).
    * If completed Lyd would be used on FR services this summer as required.
    * If launch is delayed Lyd will probably be completed and run in during the summer.
    * Launceston and L&B visits in September provided she is finished.

Incidentally the River Lyd runs not far from Launceston, so Lyd could make a short detour whilst on the low loader to pose with her namesake...

Sit down SpudUK (in case you faint at the news) but below is a paste direct from Barries website that appeared in the last 24 hours

Replica L&BR loco Lyd will be launched at the FR's Quirks and Curiosities Gala 30/4/10-3/5/10. Following running-in over the Summer, the loco will now visit the L&BR later than expected during the L&BR's September Gala. This may allow the loco to appear at the WHR's SuperPower Gala 11-12/9/10.

It says launched, nothing about being completed.

Good point, that could mean anything couldn't it ? I suspect SpudUK will have the date in his diary though and his ticket booked. ;-)

It's at a stage where the progress isn't spectacular, just fitting of the various valves and pipes. Things such as the draincocks were being fitted last week. 138 needs to vacate the space under the crane for the cab to go on. If something exciting happens it will be on the Ffestiniog Society website. In semi related news buffet car 14 (ex L&B 15) is in the works to be spruced up for the launch.

Well, some progress is good progress for me! I feel so out of the loop being stuck all the way down in Wiltshire!! Any plans to give Car 14 back to the L&B :p lol (that was obviously a huge joke)!! Would be nice to see Lyd hauling 14 about though :D

Today I noticed the draincock linkage being painted!!!!

It's odd to think that the Ffestiniog will have more of an authentic L&B train than the L&B does.
