I asked about their ticket printing on a recent visit to Woody Bay and was told it is done by a member.

Who knows, just looking at the ticket numbers I have, they are all over the place so clearly not sold in order.

Thats the way the one in Massachusetts is spelt - with a b rather than a p. Perhaps the spelling has changed at some time in the past? (or the program used to print the things imposed the US spelt version!)

It's a wonder it didn't impose RR [Railroad] rather than RLY.

AFAIK it’s always been Barnstaple, certainly was listed as such in the Doomsday book.

Another one where they changed the spelling for the US version then. Framingham, Massachusetts was founded by someone from Framlingham, Suffolk, but for some reason he dropped the L from the name. I always assumed it was named after Framingham in Norfolk!

Guilford in Connecticut lost it's d. In some maps apparently it is spelt Gilford

I can only assume that when it came to write down the name it was done phonetically.

Such things caused much angst to Phil Leotardo.

It’s not as if British place names have been linguistically stable over comparable lengths of time! (Wasn’t there a discussion on this thread earlier about Wooda Bay / Woody Bay)?

Reminds me about being approached by an Agency about a job in Newcastle - they were puzzelled when I asked which one - Under Lyme, Upon Tyne or County Down!

I'm just curious, is there any word how things are going with talks for acquiring the Blackmoor Station site? I've not heard anything about it for a long time, and last time I did it didn't sound like things had gone very well, which is concerning to me seeing how important that site if to the overall scheme of finally expanding the L&B out of it's current limits.

That site is after all meant to be the new base of operations, engineering base as well as provide undercover storage facilities for the eventual growing fleet of the railway, the new build locos as well as carriages.

Hope my concerns are not so valid now though, and talks are proving more productive and leading to a good outcome.

But all that stuff will be north of the road bridge on a site ex-Rowley Farm completely separate from the actual old station. AIUI the OSHI could be classed as a 'nice to have' but would not be essential.

Oh I see, I kind of got the impression it was all one single site they were looking to buy, the original station as well as the land for the new station and engineering/storage base. That's fair enough though if these are different sites, has the railway managed to acquire the ex-Rowley farm site yet?

@JMJR1000 the L&B's website is linked to this map which I presume is kept up to date. It shows the proposed Works north of the A39 (and thus the Old Station House Inn) and behind the existing public toilets. Whilst the roadbed in this area is marked as owned by the L&B (L&B Lower Rowley), it isn't clear whether this includes the land for the Works, and I'm adriad that I don't know.
