It will - but it may do so in a number of ways, not necessarily deleterious to the L&B.

Wholesale energy prices are already coming down. Indeed gas is at a level comparable to that last year (pre-war). This is likely to affect a whole lot of other prices (food, fertilisers, fuels, transport, etc.) which depend on energy prices and also decrease inflation. Therefore after April there is not likely (on current information) for there to be an energy based issue. Interest rates (e.g. mortgages) will obviously impact on people's spending, however if inflation drops, interest rates will drop too (in time) and this will alleviate a good few other issues.

Just to be clear, I was musing - I wasn't hoping (or suggesting) that someone should actually do it on here!

LYN was designed, built, and funded by the 762 Club. It was assembled by Alan Keefs under contract to the 762 Club. LYN is owned by the 762 Club. The L&B pays steaming fees for its use. The 762 Club is also building the first two of the four Manning Wardles at present...

My point was that it wasn't built by volunteers as Michael had suggested. The engineering work was all contracted out.

Exactly as the railway did not have the facilities at the time to make this happen. If and I think I am correct, at the time it was said that it would be quicker and cheaper to contract out all of the engineering work for new builds and restoration since space still is at a premium at Woody Bay and again it was pointed out that the railway could not always count on having enough engineering volunteers to keep up with this amount of work beside looking after the running of the railway itself.

Yet my energy supplier wants to put up my monthly direct debit even more, based simply on projections for the next 12 months !

Meanwhile, one unintended side-effect of the triple-lock 10.5%-ish increase in the State Pension for next year is that - probably for the first time ever, I don't know - it will now exceed the basic Personal Tax Allowance for basic-rate taxpayers, so we shall have to pay tax on some of it :-(

Not sure what your point is - except perhaps you have an energy supplier that needs the boot! Wholesale prices are a matter of public record after all.

But if you take your prediction forward 12 months the cost will go up again and no one can tell you just by how much, if you follow some of the people who job it is to tell you all about this stuff it is not a pretty picture coming down the tracks.

Also please don't forget that the Government has to get its money back to pay for the Covid loan it took out, so in the coming weeks the Budget is not going to do any of us any favours, there will be less money around, should you look around the charity world itself you can find that a lot of the bigger Charites are suggesting a drop in membership of around 15% and according to the Charity Commission the last twelve months has seen a rise in mergers and winding up of a lot of smaller local charities.

People are going to find this coming year tuff and some choices will have to be made, I think you will find that 3 day breaks will be up this year and just how much money you spend during that break will also be limited.

If anyone tells you that all these outside sources are not going to have an effect on the Heritage Railway market well more fool you.

On a more serious note every one is happy to have ago at me then lets see how many of you are willing to put your money into a Charles Wytock Fund to she her rebuilt and working again? PM if you are serious about making a donation and I will put you in contact with the team.

Some will, others won't. Yes, it's important to be careful, but that shouldn't extend to assuming the worst.

I though ti t had been well reported that it is the Government that benefits from the fall in wholesale prices not the consumer due to the support they are giving. Competition legislation stops suppliers offering cheaper prices to some customers and not others.

On the former point, quickly forgotten - price support schemes rarely get the political credit their originators think they deserve. On the latter, the issue is not some customers getting better prices, but that energy producers (e.g. Centrica) can't sell to their retail arms (e.g. British Gas) at less than the market rate.
