Before you start a new thread look at previous L&B threads to see whether one of these needs reviving for general - i.e. non extension - matters. Your call.

This thread would appear to be a good one to make the general "news from" L&B thread?

I sympathise with the point you make. As mentioned in an earlier message, the first carriages were indeed wrapped up in weatherproof covers during the first winter, but this practice has been abandoned.

The shed at Woody Bay is of sufficient size to accommodate only a workshop and storage for the railway's locomotives. Unfortunately there is no opportunity to store the carriages under cover of a permanent structure at Woody Bay.

Roll on the move to Blackmoor!

Well it hasn't had much use for the past nine years, so why not?

It's a difficult one, because so much about the L&B is intractably bound up with the extending railway.
For instance, is the Manning Wardle project about the extension? Is carriage no.5 the same, even though it will be part of the everyday railway? Do we limit extension discussions solely to infrastructure?
It's often very difficult to talk about the present, without it leaching into the future.
Just playing devil's avocado here, but worth a thought.o_O

Just rename it "Lynton & Barnstaple operation and extension" and is all covered in one topic.

... and as if by magic, it's changed! Who did that? I have to say that I think it was a little premature - we had hardly started considering the idea. Can anybody change any thread title at random?

Well in which case then, if the coaches have to remain outside for the time being, I really hope that move to Blackmoor comes sooner rather then later! It would be barmy on any other railway to do so much work on carriages only to store them outside, though of course I'm certainly not calling the L&B that, for as you say they have the legitimate reason being there simply is no room for a carriage shed at Woody Bay.

I only hope that Blackmoor matter is settled on soon, as I've been hearing worrying murmurs of late negotiations with the owners have gone sour for some reason. This isn't true is it? Seeing how vital Blackmoor is to the railway's growth and development, I can only hope is being done to ensure the negotiations and purchase of the land goes smoothly in good time.

Yes, the Inn has rejected the railway's offer. The railway's Blackmoor company continually postponed the offer to try to get more shares sold and I suspect the Inn got fed up with waiting. This means that those of us who invested in the hope of getting a little return as well as helping the railway have been left high and dry with no way of getting our investment back.

Now, the railway expects it can still buy the Inn on the open market; we'll see.

I have been requested by one of the L&B senior officers to post the following response.....

The purchase of the Blackmoor Inn is still being negotiated with the current owner. All subscriber funds are held in deposit and will only be used for shares when the deal is confirmed. If a deal cannot be finalised, all funds will be returned.

I had managed to be unaware of the share issue until now. So I searched online to find out more and came to https://www.lynton-rail.co.uk/story/our-next-objective which tells me "Access denied. You may need to login below or register to access this page."

Is the share issue still open? Is the "deal" the purchase of the Inn and associated land? If it does go through, is there a possibility of "getting a little return as well as helping the railway" as mentioned in post #1893?

Information about the share issue appears to be no longer online.

I suggest you email those questions directly to "blackmoor@lynton-rail.co.uk"

More like their renaming Lyd to Lew for the event, still an excited prospect all the same though. That said it be awkward if after all these years Lew is found, brought to the railway in secret, only to find some impostor in it's place...

I know, WIBN at it's best/worst, but a man can dream darn it!
