Since you don't have a vote in Scotland I don't expect she gives a (insert your chosen expletive)...

Seriously, i cant see how involving anyone else can help, ORR,and NR will have to be satisfied that there are robust rules in place to prevent this happening again before WCRC get its Licence back, that is the proper way, its now known that DBS are looking at taking some tours, but they are hamstrung in that they only have a small core of steam drivers the main losers here are the tour operators some of whome wil go out of business, and West Coast them selves who will only be gaining income from stock hire yet will still have overheads to meet

Might the Scottish authorities be minded to assist Abelio to get steam onto their own licence as quickly as possible perhaps? Having steam hauled tourist trains in Scotland seems to be a matter of policy. There could be opportunities to partner with SRPS as well. Pick up some WCRC staff on short term contracts. Who knows?

Though you would hope that she would show some concern over an issue that has the potential to severely harm the economy of Mallaig.

That assumes that WCRC staff are free to be employed . One would presume that if WCRC are suspended , then their staff may also be

If it isn't already the case, it might be prudent for NRM to begin the process of getting 60103 onto DBS books.
One can see the next fiasco to beset that loco unfolding if the operator of choice remains indisposed.

WCRC has been suspended for procedural issues as a company, not named individuals. The only cohort mentioned was senior management.

They need to diversify their economy if they are dependent on out of date public transport for 4 months of the year.

I don't think that necessarily follows, but of course we have no idea on what terms WCR Drivers are / were employed so pointless speculating. I would have thought however that if the Jacobite is as important to local economies as has been suggested, and that has been challenged, a way could be found to employ Drivers who have worked The Jacobite before, under a new umbrella. The Abelio idea is an interesting one.

In that case I suggest that you should also provide advice to the IoM about the Douglas Bay Horse Tramway.

Many thanks for the reply Wayne, that makes perfect sense. In other words, nothing to stop someone going on and on provided they pass the relevant medicals as would be the case for anyone, except in reality, unlikely many would want to.

I'm sure having the Jacobite run by the Scottish railway company using Scottish owned and based stock possibly involving 61994 which has Scottish pedigree and ownership would be very well thought of north of the border. A version of independence!

Is she ashamed of being married? ashamed of her husband? if she thought it was such a handicap one wonders why she got married in the first place.

Railway regulation and safety are reserved powers to the UK Government though, not devolved to the Scottish Government. So regardless of any huffing and puffing by nationalist Scots, the immediate decisions about WCRC's future will be taken by bodies that are accountable to Westminster, not Holyrood; and any attempt to set up a "Scottish TOC" to run trains in Scotland would also have to go through a process of convincing British, not Scottish, regulators of their competence to carry out the duty.

Absolutely Tom. Merely pointing out the incentives for something like it happening with the Scottish authorities supporting and enabling it as far as is proper. My independence remark was totally tongue in cheek and I would not wish to see any due process subverted in the interests of political expedience.

That was a silly personal attack. Many women choose to retain their single name when in high profile jobs esp where there qualifications are in their single name. Doctors , lawyers etc. One high profile lawyer is Ms C Booth otherwise known as Mrs Blair. One of our local doctors chose to use her maiden name as that is what it says on her qualifications.

Setting people and politics to one side for the moment, 'The Scottish Question' in respect of steam operations is really quite an interesting one. Apart from West Highland steam you also have everything based around Edinburgh - the Fife Circulars and, of course, the Waverley. If there is a mood in Scotland to accommodate steam in a managed way (and it seems that the Scots recognise that steam has a place in the tourism industry, if nothing else) then the logical next step is to get it all on a firm footing. So who can say what might emerge, especially if Abellio ScotRail is on board. Unlike England, there is one TOC to worry about and I suspect that makes life more manageable especially if they want a slice of the action.
