Two problems there, as mentioned, increasingly it tends to be people you would not class as enthusiasts like your or I, just Joe Bloggs who heard a steam train is coming via the local paper or whatever, and secondly, people HAVE yelled at them before about it, and been told where to go in reply.

I would guess there are more Joe Bloggs' out of bounds than Enthusiasts but there are some (the famous video proves that) and if THEY had a bit of cop on maybe Joe Bloggs would stand where they do in a safe place. We , as a loose group, need to put our house in order

    >>It was a low insult but I could not resist. I do accept that I won't convince you over James Street - but I hope you are never in the position of "making the wrong call and it >>costing you dearly" and if you are you are looked upon with some compasion.
    >>It is fair to say that unless you have worked a train in similar circumstances you won't understand what happened that night.

That my dear sir is complete cobblers. What on earth makes you think that being a railway guard is the only public safety critical occupation on earth?

I'll sleep happily with the court outcome thank you.

On the SD Cathedrals Explorer this year at Battersby, we were all stuck at the station in the cold for a long time while NR sorted out the local service that was preventing our NYMR train from dropping across from the adjacent road where it was sitting to pick us up.

Train stewards were all over the foot crossing to deal with the movement of people (including the locals). Although it would have been physically possible to do so they were also clear about the fact that we couldn't warm up by boarding the waiting NYMR train on the disused platform because it was not a public area.

This is an example of when the tour operator had briefed the ontrain stewards who did what was needed to manage everyone. In the long run, I think that probably what needs to happen routinely is that train stewards police the platform area where the train is, which sometimes happens now, but I have to say not all of the time. It seems to depend on whether anyone remembers to take control and see it is done. As for other platforms and ramps then that has to be down to station staff or BTP if present. Again, that oftens happens but sometimes does not. Surely it is not rocket science to anticipate the arrival of the charter and be ahead of the game. After all, apart from the charter passengers themselves, everyone else is already there waiting ahead of the arrival.

And by the way...to the many and various other irritated posters on this thread.....peace and goodwill to you too!

None. There has been no time in history when 16 year olds have not experimented with drink. Thats why sober people are given safety responsibility, backed up with testing.

This thread I think has reached it's conclusion, nothing new is being added that has not been said before so unless there are good reasons to do otherwise it's now locked.
